Our visit to Peppersack in Tallinn was fantastic—delicious food, a cozy medieval setting, and staff dressed in charming medieval costumes that added an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. The entire evening felt like stepping back in time, with hearty flavors and attention to detail making it truly special. Here’s what we enjoyed:
Appetizers: • Sliced pork roast with onion, red beets, horseradish, mustard, and black bread: This dish was a flavor explosion in the best way. The tangy horseradish and sweet red beets played beautifully against the rich pork roast, with the hearty black bread tying it all together. A delightful start to the meal! • Homemade garlic bread with dipping sauce: Warm, aromatic, and impossible to stop eating. The dipping sauce was the cherry on top—garlicky goodness at its peak.
Main Courses: • Grilled beef fillet with oven-baked potatoes, ratatouille, and demi-glace sauce: This dish was a triumph! The beef fillet was tender and cooked to perfection, while the oven-baked potatoes added just the right amount of crunch. The ratatouille brought a burst of color and flavor, and the demi-glace sauce tied everything together with its rich, savory depth. • Lamb stew with vegetables cooked in beer with cheese topping and oven-baked potatoes: Comfort food doesn’t get much better than this. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the vegetables had a wonderful earthy flavor from the beer. The cheese topping was the perfect finishing touch, and the oven-baked potatoes rounded out this hearty, satisfying dish.
Dessert: • Crème brûlée: A classic done right! The custard was silky smooth, and the caramelized sugar crust had just the right amount of crunch. It was a perfect ending to a rich and indulgent meal.
Drinks: • Wild strawberry lemonade: This drink was a refreshing burst of sweetness, balancing out the richness of our meal beautifully. • Crafter’s gin tonic: Crisp, botanical, and expertly mixed, it added a nice touch of sophistication to the evening.
Service:
The service was exceptional, and the staff, dressed in medieval costumes, truly brought the experience to life. Our waitress was an absolute delight—warm, sweet, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best time. She listened to our preferences and gave excellent recommendations, all of which were spot-on. Her friendliness and the team’s dedication to the theme made us feel like honored guests at a medieval feast.
Peppersack offers more than just a meal—it’s a step back in time, filled with hearty flavors, charming ambiance, and top-notch hospitality. If you’re in Tallinn and want a dining experience that’s unique, delicious, and steeped in history, this is the place to be! Highly...
Read moreThe day I went, we were kind of short on money so I decided to go for one of the cheapest options. I ordered a lamb stew or something like that, it looked very good on paper, but what came to my table, looked more like a free sample than an actual main course for an adult.
Just for context, I'm 1,75 and I weight 90 kg, yeah, maybe i should eat less junk, but that's no excuse for what they gave me. If Barbie invited ken and her 2 best friends for dinner, and cooked a stew, it would most likely be the size of what was brought to me. It felt like a prank. When they brought that thing I thought, "oh maybe this is just the side dish, maybe she's going back to the kitchen to bring the real thing" but no, my whole dish was just that extra small, tiny, miniscule, cute little stew and a bunch of baked potatoes with nothing on them besides a magical sprinkle of salt, not some herbs, or a nice sauce, or ajín or any kind of powder with artificial flavor, none of that, nothing that could possibly make me feel that life was worth living. My partner ordered chicken or something and he was also hungry by the time we finished, but the size of his dish was definitely not as small as mine.
Was it tasty? Sure! Delicious! It tasted very medieval-ish, i guess. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. Because tasty isn't enough. My biggest wish, besides world peace, of course, is that all restaurant owners in the world decide to sign and international law in which they all agree to serve not only tasty food but also ENOUGH food for their clients, to serve portions with sizes actually worth the money people is paying, portions that can perhaps fill an adult's hungry stomach. If for whatever reason, (poverty, war, the winter, deadly plagues etc) medieval folks back in the day, used to eat such small portions, that was their business, hundreds of years have passed, we have to break the cycle and start making people feel actually satisfied with the...
Read moreA nice restaurant, conceived as a tourist attraction like others in Tallin. Medieval ambience building, decorations and costumes for the waiters make the place fun to visit. Nevertheless many plates on the menu aren't traditional Estonian recipes, they still seemed interesting and deserve a try. The traditional meat soup, Solyanca, was really delicious. I would suggest adding the ingredients to the menu and train the waiters better about the ingredients. The crispy pork shank was cooked to perfection, crisp and juicy served with nicely backed potatoes, delicious sauerkraut and a lovely mustard sauce that elevate the pork meat to another level. The dish was really huge and could feed even more than two people. Kama cake that is common here, it's a simple whipped cream cheese cake served with nice current berries and spices sauce. Service has some issues... The runner (table sheet) by rule, and after we've gone through COVID, should be changed whenever a table that has hosted a group or even a person is getting set to host new clients. I thought that this was only a distraction from the waiter but after watching other two tables cleared away without changing the runner cloth I'm quite sure it's a regular habit. Food arrived with good timing and we didn't have to wait much. Prices are ok when you are reading the menu. But these don't include 20% tax, which isn't notified in any part of the menu... Though dishes are a bit overpriced. The food was great and with more attention to fundamental details it could aim for...
