Belge — Restaurant in Helsinki sub-region

We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance to dine between 17 to 19. We ordered our appetizer and main dishes all at once so they'd be made by the time we're done. Drinks came fast and after 20 minutes so did the appetizer. The main dishes took over 1.5 hours to arrive after we had finished our appetizer. After waiting eternally for a waiter and inquiring about our food she went away and they proceeded to start screaming at each other from the kitchen. Service was horrible. Got my chair bumped a couple of times. Our drinks went hot from waiting. When the food eventually came we didn't even receive an apology nor an explanation whatsoever. Instead the service got even worse than before. One of the dishes was fine. The other one was edible and the food had a hair on the side. Not surprising given that half their waiters don't even tie their hair up. Didnt't even bother complaining anymore in fear they'd make us wait another 2 hours. When the time to pay came they didn't even bring up all the trouble they had caused us. The waiter even had problems ringing the card properly. What's more, bathrooms look like average dirty shopping mall ones. They completely ruined our day and wasted our time astronomically. Not dining at Belge ever again, a shame since it used to be really nice. We're not the type of people to complain and we try to be understanding but this time it was parodically horrible. What a lovely place upstairs, very much suprised me by our arrival. We had a booking and were promptly guided upstairs to the restaurant area. We had glasses of champagne served as was mentioned in the booking and we got very lovely seats by the window.

Service was excellent and the staff was very knowledgeable about the wines they had on menu. Great recommendations. Here as well as in many other places though, I wish the food had a little bit more salt but this is nitpicking.

There was also a very talented saxophone player which most certainly uplifted the experience even further. This might’ve been a special occasion though. But definitely...

A sloppy diner experience with fine dining pricing in a messy bar environment.

Belge is massively overpriced. The food is alright without being especially good. We were a party of 6 and none of us were particularly impressed with the food. Underwhelmed is a more appropriate description. The service is slow but friendly. The location extremely loud. It is almost as if the management could not decide if the restaurant is a night club or not. There is a DJ in a booth between the bar area and dining room. I do not recommend Belge. Its glory days are long gone. Expensive, uninviting...
