Fazer Café Kluuvikatu, one of the largest and most iconic branches of the renowned Fazer chain, undoubtedly draws in crowds of both locals and tourists. Its central location and reputation make it a go-to spot for coffee and desserts, but the experience leaves much to be desired.
The café’s popularity often works against it, as it is almost always packed. Finding a seat is a challenge, and the sheer volume of patrons stretches the staff thin. During my visit, it took nearly 30 minutes from queuing to receiving our food and drinks, then scrambling to find a table. The slow service is clearly a result of the café being understaffed for its size and foot traffic.
The layout does not help either. Seating arrangements feel haphazard, with tables that are often too small to comfortably hold even a modest order of drinks and desserts. For those expecting a proper dining experience, this setup is highly impractical. Adding to the discomfort, the air circulation is poor. During the colder months, the café becomes uncomfortably stuffy due to the heaters being turned up high. Stripping off winter layers becomes necessary, but with limited space and no available hangers, even this becomes a hassle.
Another issue is the cleanliness and table turnover. With so few staff on duty, tables are often left uncleared, leaving waiting customers frustrated and further contributing to the overall sense of clutter.
While Fazer Café Kluuvikatu has its charms as a historical and bustling spot, the overcrowding, slow service, and impractical layout make it a less enjoyable experience. There are several other Fazer branches in Helsinki that offer a far more pleasant and relaxed environment. Unless you’re drawn by its iconic status, this branch might not be...
Read moreI am very disappointed with this cafe. As a foreigner I am simply attracted to bug and famous Fazer. I like the chocolates so I it was a thing for me to go there. Never again. The place is huge, cafe combined with a shop, no problem with that. But the services? Awful. It's like those workers are there by punishment. It's like they specially behave repulsive for you not to come back, they Thet will have less job. First we ordered ice cream and we were checking twice with a woman who was seeing them if we can have one scoop but decided by two flavours. We did it in Finnish and in English - yet we got two separated scoops we had to pay for (and it's rather super expensive, more than 7 EUR for two scoops). Cones, sprinkles everything extra paid and they don't even mention a word that you have to pay extra for every single thing. And that should be paid. So after all for 3 scoops I paid 10,50 EUR(!) which is making it the most expensive ice cream we ever had. Then when I asked for a spoon to my cappuccino another waitress told me they are by the table with other cutlery and when I came back to her saying there is no more she answered, well "apparently there no more". Like, cmon! This is a cafeteria. You serve coffee and ice cream how can there be a lack of little spoons?!? And for my question which what I should eat my ice cream then, she said I can use the big, soup spoons. Well. Wow. Awful attitude. Seriously people like that should not work in customer service. I give two stars ONLY cos I loved a flavour of the ice cream (geisha). The rest: no, never...
Read moreStepping into Fazer Café Kluuvikatu feels like stepping back in time. Founded by Karl Fazer in 1891, this historic café is not just a place to grab a coffee—it's a true Helsinki institution that blends tradition, elegance, and indulgence under one roof.
The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The café beautifully retains elements of its early 20th-century décor, with dark wood paneling, plush seating, and an overall classic design that pays homage to its rich heritage. It’s rare to find such a perfect mix of old-world charm and modern comfort.
The selection of confections, pastries, and handmade chocolates is second to none. Whether you’re after a classic Fazer Blue chocolate bar, a decadent slice of cake, or a savory lunch option, the quality is consistently top-tier. I especially appreciated how much attention is given to presentation and freshness.
Service was friendly and efficient, even during a busy afternoon. The staff clearly takes pride in the café’s legacy and makes you feel like you're part of something special.
This café is more than just a place to eat—it’s a cultural experience that captures the essence of Finnish hospitality and culinary tradition. Whether you're a tourist visiting Helsinki or a local looking for a cozy spot to relax, Fazer Café Kluuvikatu is absolutely...
