We were delighted to try out this newly opened restaurant in Porvoo.
We took a day trip to Porvoo with our parents and 5-month old daughter and we have planned to enjoy a homey meal at this newly-opened restaurant after looking through their menu online.
We ordered CALAMARI as our appetizer; PALABOK, SIZZLING SISIG, KARE-KARE and CHICKEN INASAL as our mains and it didn't disappoint. Kare Kare, Sizzling sisig and Chicken Inasal were our favorites.
The Inasal was moist, flavorful and grilled well.
The Kare-kare was sumptuous, I couldn't get enough. The Crispy pork was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sauce was savory and was complimented well with the shrimp paste. The vegetebles were cooked right. The dish as a whole is enough for one but for a Filipino appetite, you probably will ask for extra rice. 😊
The sisig was perfect. The meat and other ingredients were freshly made. The dish was just right in terms of richness of taste. Again, prepare to add more rice to your order.
Overall, the complexity of flavor and simplicity of the dishes satisfied our longing for nostalgic tastes.
While others may find it weird that you have offered American and Italian dishes in a Filipino restaurant, I commend the thoughts you've put into providing options for those who may not be as adventurous or are coming in groups with varied dietary needs. This is also a good way to showcase the skills you have acquired throughout the years.
As for the place, it was neat, clean and accessible. You just have to walk for about 5 mins from bus station (if you are not driving). The place is new so it is something I can dismiss , but maybe it will be nice to have some music in the background just for added ambience.
Keep your food and cleanliness standards to how it is now and we will be happy to see you open...
Read moreWe had lunch at Tropa's Hub. The welcome and service was very warm, friendly and quick. We ordered, paid in advance and then went to table. The water jug was brought to table. We ordered Calamari fritz, Bacon burger, Chicken teriyaki and Pasta carbonara. They were all very well done and tasty. Especially the Calamari were wonderfully crispy. The bacon burger was juicy and the BBQ sauce mouthwatering. Chicken teriyaki was also a good choice, the chicken was tender and the sauce not too spicy. Pasta carbonara was actually quite authentically Italian, and therefore just right! There was tea and coffee available on the side table. Nice! The restaurant itself is quite small and there's no room for big groups. The atmosphere could be improved in small, low-cost ways with suitable decoration, such as photos or paintings on the walls and green plants. A hint: the lighting could be improved. Now the lamps are quite dull, tiffany-style colored glass lamps would bring warmth...
Read moreWe had a very good lunch! It was my first time trying Filipino food and it was delicious, it felt like I was traveling! I ordered a kare kare and halo halo (I’ve been wanting to try it for ages) and I loved both of them. My friend tried the vegan sizzling sisig and loved it as well. The portion size was perfect in our opinion and the service was very friendly. The lady (who I guess is the owner) explained to me how to eat the kare kare and the halo halo and I really appreciated her advice. The pricing for all of the food was very fair as well.
Unfortunately I am a tourist so I probably won’t come back, but if I lived next to Porvoo I would definitely come here often. If you’re in the area I highly recommend...
