Edit in response to the reply from the restaurant: I think the attempt at insulting their customers in response to a bad review rather than acknowledging feedback says everything you need to know about this restaurant. Whatever the excuses are, the fact the customer is blamed for the bad food and service (bad eating style, not saying thank you etc) shows that you are not valued as a customer in this restaurant which highlights my original point about lack of respect for customers perfectly...
Wow, just wow. These reviews don't even do justice to just how bad this place is.
Starters: Thai sweet chilli sauce served with the samosas and pakoras, just odd on all levels. Samosas were clearly shop bought because they were the only edible thing. The batter to Paneer ratio in the pakora was just impressively bad and takes some real skill to make something like that, especially that the batter inside was still raw.
Mains: frozen vegetables, oil and chili oil (added depending on your spice order but does nothing for the actual taste). Other reviews mentioned the oil but coming from the UK where a little oil is a good and normal thing in a curry I presumed they were exaggerating. Well no... The oil kept coming and reassembled some kind of strange oily soup. It was inedible.
Rice was overcooked and the naan smelled like day old stale beer for some reason?
Then the service. This topped off the whole experience and fit perfectly with the standard of food. Not once did she ask how the food was, not even when clearing half full plates. We waited around 20 mins after 'finishing' our food and even then had to stand up to ask to pay as she was too busy playing on her phone. Didn't thank us for the custom, didn't really acknowledge us at all.
Contrary to other reviews here, I would say the price is fair considering the costs of oil nowadays have increased and you get enough oil on your plate to fuel a small car...(but seriously 15€-20€ for an inedible main is just talking the biscuit).
If you want value for money, tasty food and good service, simply cross the road and get a...
Read moreI never reviewed normally but after my worst experience with curry masala i must think to give feedback, my first advice to everyone not to waste your money on this restaurant, and if you go please don't take what they advice you to try, i went Rovaniemi with my husband and I insist my husband to have food from this restaurant, we went and ordered chicken qorma and mutton biryani, the girl on reception said chicken Tikka masala is really good you will like that, i said ok we took take away parcel, at restaurant we saw on one table plates and food inside dark orange colour and almost half of the food was left from someone's, we spent around 45€ but my husband was not sure about the food we bought burgers from another restaurant and came back to our place, really food was undescribable worst in taste, chicken Tikka masala was really don't how they prepared it was sweet and like we were eating coconut curry, we tried but couldn't eat, then mutton biryani i was praying in my heart should be fine but really it was worst than so called Tikka masala , too much spicy rice were like some gravy, they even don't know how biryani rice look like not sticky rice like their biryani do , and I guess they are making only one gravy what they serve with the long menu list, because the table with half of left food we saw had the same orange gravy what reception girl adviced us so called chicken Tikka masala,Thanks God my husband bought burgers we ate burger and throw all the food 😞we tried but food was spicy sweet not taste like food, my whole journey from Helsinki to Rovaniemi was the best except my visit to this curry masala restaurant. I wish I could not give...
Read moreThe menu says it's a little more expensive because the restaurant in Rovaniemi is remote and they need to get ingredients from Helsinki.
The butter chicken came out a strange yellow colour and tasted of only coconut milk. It's possible that they can't get tomatoes here which is essential for many Indian curries
We nibbled through the coconut milk and rice dinner but have now paid for the most expensive Indian meal we've ever had.
As this is the only Indian restaurant in town, I think they will have a steady flow of unknowing tourists coming through here.
If you do come, just a tip or two; they don't have any hot tea, you have to pay for table water which is very unusual in Finland, and do order everything spicy because they have few spices/flavour added to their curries.
My partner and I have travelled a lot and tried many Indian places and this is sadly the worst I have experienced.
The service was fine but the waiter looked like he would rather be anywhere else in the world and tactfully didn't ask us how our food was.
It was also silent, without music or much decor.
I wouldn't consider this food to be...
