It's a great experience to visit this restaurant. It's a snow-covered tent like the one found in childhood fairy tales. A small room made of wood in the shape of a large tent. The handle that holds the door open is a large horn of a Reindeer. It's around -17 this time. So To escape from the bitter cold outside, we quickly went inside ...inside a fire was kindled in the middle of the room. The dining benches and desks are Barely half a foot wide around,. And the seats are Full. However, within five minutes we got a place to sit. Because the coals are piled up in the middle and the sides are covered with a good thick leather typed material, not even a speck of cold can come in and that feels so good. Two beautiful menu cards were carved into wooden boards. One is for food and the other is for drinks. There are only a few items on the food menu. fresh grilled salmon, including traditional Finnish salad and bread. Lapland's traditional cheese is made with cloudberry jam. An amazing Scandinavian cheesecake. On the drinks menu, their traditional coffees and local beer. We ordered everything on the food menu, along with beer. As soon as the order was received, the grilling of the salmon fish began. They grill the salmon on the same fire in the middle of the room. As we can see they don't add anything on grilling just to add some smoke that gives its amazing aroma and flavour. We enjoyed the ambience and taste and wish to spend more time. But unfortunately, people are waiting in the queue to get a seat so we moved. I will recommend this as on the...
Read moreMy recent visit to Santa's Salmon Place with friends was nothing short of incredible, despite arriving just 10 minutes before the restaurant closed. The staff, although preparing to wind down for the evening, were welcoming and gracious, making sure we felt comfortable and attended to throughout the experience.
The star of the show, however, was the salmon. It was, hands down, the most delicious salmon I’ve ever had. The fish was freshly grilled, with the natural flavors enhanced by the use of wood-fired grilling, which added a delightful smokiness to the dish. The grilling method not only provided a unique dining experience but also made the meal feel even more authentic and enjoyable.
The ambiance of the place was cozy and inviting. The setup allowed us to enjoy the evening breeze while savoring every bite of the perfectly grilled salmon. It felt like the perfect blend of casual yet special, and the rustic charm of the open grilling added to the overall warmth of the experience.
Even though we arrived late, the staff didn’t rush us and took his time to ensure that we had a pleasant dining experience. His attention to detail and friendliness made all the difference in what could have been a rushed meal.
Overall, Santa’s Salmon Place is a perfect gem that offers not just amazing food but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The combination of freshly grilled salmon, the wood-fired flavors, made this one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I can’t wait to return for another delicious plate of their...
Read moreA trip to Rovaniemi will not be complete without a visit to the renowned Santa's Salmon Place. This place was highly extolled by my friends that have been to Finland, and my experience here has, without question, lived up to the hype. While queuing 1h10min in the snow was not an ideal situation and we were all freezing, it was honestly worth the wait simply for the experience as well as the food. We got the salmon main, blueberry cake and the Finnish Cheese as well as coffee, beer and coke for drinks. The food here was reasonably priced (£25 for the salmon, £7 for the cake, £3 or under for the drinks) and the hut was extremely cosy, with a fireplace and grill in the middle of the restaurant. The seating was quite limited thus the queue, but it offered an authentic native Finnish experience. The salmon was fantastic and honestly the best i've ever had and the blueberry cheesecake was incredible and we ordered 2 slices of it. The cheesecake was soft and the biscuit underneath it was super tasty, a very strong finish to the meal.
The only con to this place is likely the small seating area, which might be quite squeezy, as well as the long waiting time (1h10min) which might be too long for some. Also, if you miss one round of salmon, you'll have to wait for another 20 minutes before the next batch of salmon is ready. However, i attribute this to part of the experience and have no regrets coming here at all. Highly recommend this all time classic restaurant if you're dropping by Rovaniemi as it is worth the...
