Café du Temps — Restaurant in Aix-en-Provence

We went once and really enjoyed the breakfast and the coffee! We tried to go again and we were not allowed to take a seat (even with empty tables), just because we were craving for only a good iced coffee during lunchtime. We were even told that we could find an iced coffee anywhere. I liked this place because of the quality of the coffee which I don't think I can find everywhere...But I guess at least I can find the right to seat and better service elsewhere.

UPDATE: I decided to give it a second chance which turned out to be worse. I went two weeks ago on a Saturday, a bit past 12pm. I went with a friend to get a late breakfast but unfortunately they didn't have any tartines left. No problem, we decided to have a cake with a cappuccino. When the waiter realised we were not going to grab lunch he told us we had to leave. I was clearly shocked I was being rejected for the second time, and I asked him if we really had to leave. He said yes while taking back the menus. This was not a misunderstanding, and the only thing I expect from this place is to acknowledge that this has happened. Café du temps is a vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurant/café. ☺️ It was a lucky day for me because most of the dishes on the menu were vegan including desserts. 🍮 Looks like the menu keeps changing.

I ordered the galette libanaise along with a citronnade (lemon). I must say that the falafels in my main course were not too oily as served in other food joints. I loved the fries 🍟 served with the dish. They were the true version of French fries with potato skin, cooked perfectly. The lemonade was just perfect, not too sweet.

For desserts, I had the mousse and it was extremely light. I loved the texture and the taste. It was a bit sweeter for my taste; however, I am not complaining 😀 because I had a wholesome meal there, on a Sunday afternoon, without reservation.

I paid about €31 for the drink , main dish and the dessert. The café has an outdoor seating for those who came to eat lunch. You might have to sit inside if you are there just for a cup of coffee. I am not sure, guess it depends...

I visited this café a few weeks ago after reading about how great their food is. My friend, and I were particularly excited to try the “avocado toast”. We had been sitting down for about 15min when our order was taken. It turns out they were out of avocado toast. We decided this was ok, and that we would order a cake/pastry with our beverage, instead. The waiter told us this was not possible, and asked us to leave. I was so shocked that I asked him out loud :“ Do we really have to leave”? I wish I could have told you if their other menu options were good or not, but we were refused service and had our time wasted. This is my second unpleasant experience with this establishment (to which I gave the benefit of the doubt to), so it is safe to say I will not be returning.
