Sadly disappointing. This was our only Michelin-starred stop in Beaune and severely underperformed. The service alone was completely inconsistent with the Michelin requirements: staff didn’t come to welcome us on arrival; twice during the meal they cleared plates before all of us were finished, and numerous times waitstaff bumped us—or worse—placed a plate without saying a word. We almost thought it was a joke when a small girl in pajamas started poking her head around the corner. It was so bad, it was almost unbelievable. The amuse bouche had so much promise, but the remaining food did not deliver at all: the crab millefeuille had soggy lettuce layers; the fish was over cooked; the chicken “patty” was extremely dry; and the dessert tasted freezer-burnt. By the end, we honestly wondered if we were on camera and this was being recorded as a joke. No smiles, very little courtesy, and a disappointing food experience. In four nights, our worst meal and worst experience in Beaune. Genuinely hard to believe this restaurant secured a...
Read moreI had looked forward to dining at Le Bénaton — a place known for good qualify and precision. Yet, the experience left me quietly disappointed.
The wine, though highly rated, was flat and lifeless — not flawed, but devoid of presence. It lacked aroma, energy, and any sense of Vosne-Romanée.
The fish dish was technically fine, but emotionally empty. It melted away in the mouth without leaving any lasting impression — a dish difficult to remember.
What compounded the issue was the sommelier’s overconfidence. Recommendations were offered with certainty, but they didn’t align with what was poured or what was served. It felt more like performance than understanding.
I still respect the ambition of the restaurant. But for an establishment that aspires to refinement, I expected more quiet depth — and less...
Read moreThe table in Le Benaton was booked for one vegetarian and one omnivore via “the Fork“. despite the various confirmations the restaurant was unfortunately caught by surprise (or did not check the reservation with due diligence). As a result, the vegetarian menu consisted of the regular courses without the meat/fish. So far so good but then we had to wait 50 minutes for the amuse gueule. In the meantime, guests arriving after us were enjoying their second course. It turns out, they even forgot the first of two amuse gueules. The quality of the ingredients were fine although the compositions were clearly below one Michelin star and rather on the boring side. Overall, not a particularly memorable experience, and a moderate performance/price ratio.
