Le Petit Bidon was the perfect place for an amazing French dinner.
The restaurant is family owned and we really felt like getting invited by a local family to enjoy their favorite food from the area. The staff went above and beyond to create the perfect experience.
The menu was in French, but both the mother and son spend a great effort translating the names and helping us understand the different flavors for each dish. For our main course we got the perfect advice on a wine pairing including the stories behind all the different wines. The pairing really made a world a difference for both our meals.
We had the smoked fois-gras and truffle egg as a starter, with the pork and poultry as the main dish. Finally, we shared the chocolate Creme Brulee. The owners also gave us a complimentary wine to pair with the dessert which really topped the whole experience.
When asking about the wineries, the owners provided us with a list with different local wineries and wrote down which wines we had during our dinner.

He helped us select the wine, and at the end of the meal during our cheese course, he brought out 4 small samples of desert wine to taste and pair with the cheeses. The food and service were so good we tried to return for dinner but they were booked solid. If you want to give this restaurant a chance, get reservations well in advance. Also worth noting is that when we asked the hotel concierge about getting a reservation there, her face lit up and she revealed it was her favorite restaurant in Colmar. That at least...
Read moreVery warm welcome at this family-run little bistrot with a nice interior.
The son of the owners almost exploded with passion when narrating about the beers and whines of which he knew every producer personally as well as all the production details and particularities in detail. Never encountered someone as passionate and knowledgeable about whines and beers.
I had an interestingly innovative but quite successful crème brulée de foie gras as a starter and an evenly innovative what I figured to be the Alsace way of a dorade grillé with red cabbage and a yogurt sauce. Rather strange for my taste but one must embrace the local food customs...
