We wanted to try the Riviera Restaurant in the recently renovated Hotel Carlton, for our wedding anniversary. What a very frustrating disappointment from start to finish! We knew it would be extremely expensive but were quite happy to pay whatever for an enjoyable evening, good service and good food. Far from it! Having been shown to our table on the terrace and given menus, we were thereafter totally ignored by all waiters. In the end I had to ask for the cocktail list, as we had been looking forward to a cocktail apéritif. No-one came to take the order until I finally managed to catch someone’s attention. Exactly the same thing to order the food and wine - we had to try to beckon someone. All this did not make for a pleasant relaxing evening!
My husband’s first choice of main course (lamb) was not available, neither was his second choice (pork). After at least 20 minutes and several requests, the cocktails finally arrived, and a couple of minutes later, the starters, leaving no time to enjoy the cocktails....So the starters had to be sent back, one of them to be kept warm. The veal, which my husband was almost obliged to have, was badly sliced by a very pleasant waitress, but who was self-admittedly and apologetically ‘new’ - as several other young waiters and waitresses seemed to be. No confidence or friendly exchange. When one is paying those prices, totally professional service is expected, i.e. not from trainees or stagiaires! The girl slicing the veal was actually at a disadvantage because by that time it was dark and there was very little light on the tables. A large slice of fat was on the plate and the veal was definitely not rosé!
A very good chocolate desert. And 2 Expressos at €15 each....! How dare they!?? That was definitely an UNexpected price. It’s almost laughable.
Uncomfortable metal chairs, with no back cushion.
The only friendly, efficient, smiley member of the staff was the voiturier!
The ‘old’ Carlton was so...
Read moreBeen in this beautiful restaurant, so many times, and this is not my first review, just want to comeback any time I can, because to me and my family this is the emblem of Cannes, is the most. I may be subjective but it is elegant, clasic perfect, the way just Channel can be in the world of fashion. We stayed in this hotel(birthday celebrations, Nov.2019)and we spend every year 6 weeks in Cannes, as our summer holiday. We celebrate in the Carlton restaurant, through the years, birthdays, graduations, masters, doctorate and everything important to our family. We taste your fantastic food ,champagne, and every time it was the best experience possible, making memories, which life is about. I want to state here at the end but definitely the most important is your staff, which above being well trade, professional, smiling continues, they have the tuck. The smile is sincere, the service is from their hearts, the approach is warm and makes you feel on the top of the world. We are normal class people, but when we are there we feel the most important.in the hole world. BIG THANKS TO JEAN FRANÇOIS, absolutely 💯, his smile ,professionalism, dedication, and the way he looks for the place and guests ,very rare,to Nadia, amazing person, to Richard, professional and helpful, to Emma from reception. So sorry, if I missed anyone, but people like them, can rules the world. Thank you, again Maria...
Read moreReally really delicious lunch. A high price, but with the view, the ambience and the beautiful food, it was a stunning combination. To begin with, the seating sofas were so comfortable and under the protection of a parasol in the sun, the temperature was warm but not too hot. The positioning of plants around the Riviera Restaurant was really nice.
In my opinion, the service was friendly, straightforward and professional. We were guided to our table and swiftly given menus to peruse. The menu for lunch contained a wide variety of vegetarian, meat and fish dishes from salads to burgers to steak to Carlton Club sandwiches and also tartes fines (small pizzas). In addition, there were gluten free options too. The avocado guacamole tart fine was delicious, with a rich and sweet flavour. The salad nicoise, burger and Carlton Club sandwiches also received rave reviews. As well, we were given a complementary basket of beautiful olive breads.
For dessert, the fruit platter was flavorful and pretty and the raspberries in particular were so ripe and sweet. Also, the drinks we ordered were very very good, and even the sparkling water tasted fantastic!
Overall, a stunning lunch experience, especially due to the location and splendour of the Carlton hotel. If a luxurious experience is what is wanted, this should...
