JW Marriott Cannes – A Masterclass in Disappointment The JW Marriott in Cannes trades entirely on one asset: its location. Yes, it is directly on the Croisette with proximity to the beach. However, don't mistake this for access. Despite room rates soaring well over €1000 per night, guests are notably denied entry to the coveted beach clubs that define the Cannes experience, a shocking omission at this price point. Our stay was a cascade of letdowns. The included breakfast was merely fair, but the process of getting a simple serving of eggs was unnecessarily convoluted, requiring interactions with multiple staff members. The rooms were unimpressive, bland, and offered little respite from the bustling street noise outside. To make matters worse, our specific room was in noticeably poor condition. The hotel's amenities are a study in contrast. The rooftop bar is indeed lovely for a sunset drink, but the pool is perhaps the most underwhelming we have ever encountered - a postage-stamp-sized disappointment made even worse by an ugly balustrade. The most telling sign of the hotel's operational dysfunction was the constant queue of unhappy patrons at the front desk. It’s a sight that explains why the place seems to employ more assistant managers than a McDonald's. Furthermore, for the entire duration of our stay, the main elevator was out of order, forcing all guests to crowd into a single, slow service lift. This was an immense inconvenience, especially for those with mobility issues or luggage, and a glaring indicator of poor maintenance. Ultimately, the JW Marriott Cannes fails on every level to deliver a experience commensurate with its 5 stars or its exorbitant price. The service is not just inattentive; the entire operation feels broken. We will be returning to Cannes next year, but we will be booking an Airbnb that offers far better value, space, and reliability.

Would’ve given a five star review if not for the fiasco that happened on the morning of my checkout. Big plus point to the front desk and guest relations, plus Theo from concierge who was amazing throughout our three nights stay. Property not only recognized my wife and my platinum but also gave us an amazing upgrade as it was a birthday celebration. Guest relations and front desk were also thoroughly helpful and pleased my toddler who had a great time. Breakfast spread was a little paltry for a five star but definitely still make the cut. Rooms were new, clean, and house keeping service was immaculate. Concierge (Theo) in particular was helpful in giving recommendations which were fabulous. My disappointment came on the day of checkout; my wife and I knew that it was going to be extremely challenging to hail an Uber in the morning. Hence, we confirmed and checked with concierge at least 4 times with 12 hours buffer before our intended time of travel, to which concierge gave us assurance that all will be good. However, on the day of checkout, the taxi transfer was not present (we stood and waited for 20 mins), being frustrated, I checked multiple times with the duty concierge who was not sarcastically apologetic. All he should have done was to let us know that there is a possibility that there would not be takers, to which, we would have sought alternative transportation — especially with 2 seniors, 1 toddler, and 1 pregnant. This was the most hostile concierge I have ever encountered in a five star property and led to the four star review.

After having an awful experience at the Le Meridian in Nice I decided to move here for the remainder of my vacation. The difference was night and day! Wish I would have stayed here the entire time. The biggest upside was the service- of course you expect top notch service with a JW but they were above and beyond. I made the reservation for the wrong day and yet they still were able to accommodate me and even upgraded my room. I was so thankful. The hotel is directly on the famous strip in Cannes- luxury cars everywhere. You can walk to everything, luxury shopping, restaurants and of course the beach. The beach clubs are directly across the street. €95-75 for a chair and umbrella. I would say the Concerige wasn’t as helpful as I expected (I expected them to be able to make beach reservations or water activity reservations) but they were still very polite. The room was very nice. I had a balcony with a partial sea view. Zero complaints about the room. The roof top bar and restaurant allowed for an amazing view. The drinks were good. The pool area is odd, it has a “glass wall” around it. No one was really using it while I was up there. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was great, rooms nice and location perfect if you want to be in the middle of the action!

My family and I did not enjoy the stay and we were extremely disappointed. The service was clearly disappointing with unhelpful staff. They had an annoying arrogance and attitude in almost everything they offer to an extent where we wished we never stayed at this Marriott property.

At check-in, there was no special welcome to us as Elite Ambassador members neither any gesture of hospitality as we were coming to celebrate our anniversary but due to the lack of hotel collaboration, we decided to defer the celebration as we did not get the upgrade we wanted with connecting rooms using the Nightly Upgrade Award (which has not been returned to our account until now!).

The use of the kids club and the beach access was for a fee that we were not aware of prior to staying. Also, my 8 year old son had to pay for his breakfast. Hotel noted that these are “communicated and stated clearly.” I am afraid they are not and the receptionist did not highlight any of these. Irrespective, reputable properties would actually send all their facilities details and charges prior to guests arriving several days so the expectations are set.

The breakfast was ordinary and the food was tasteless especially the eggs, waffles and pancakes. On the kids, I had to stop one of the waiters who would carry a large tray of plates right on top of my daughter’s head. The staff continued to handle such situations improperly to an extent a waitress dropped hot coffee on a kid next to our table with no basic liquids burning emergency response training!

Also, the hotel did not grant us a late check out at 2pm and only gave one hour to 1pm. Sadly, I decided not to take the extended check out and rather drive directly to Geneva (around 6 hours) at 12pm (normal check out time). I asked for the trolley to check out and it took 45 min for the trolley to come quoting being busy with no apology whatsoever! This way, I didn’t relax and I was waiting for the trolley for extended time putting additional unnecessary pressure on us as family with kids before a long road trip.

Lastly, the hotel states in its website that the windows are “soundproof” but trust me they are not as we were able to hear clearly the sound of the ongoing event that weekend which was around a mile away!

In general, our experience was sour and the hotel staff needs adequate training. Also, management needs to tune down the unnecessary arrogance in dealing with the guests and apologize when certain things are not reflective of the expected standard. They are so rude to an extent they sent an email to me after I checked out stating “While no additional compensation has been approved by our management, please be assured that we value your loyalty as an Ambassador Elite member and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an improved experience in the future.” I find the language in that whole email condescending, arrogant and unwelcoming. There is no need to mention not offering a compensation because I never asked for it!

The hotel duty manager and guest relations supervisor needs further training on being hospitable as their emails are arrogant and actually contradict each other. They further claim to Marriott Ambassador team that all issues were sorted out with me during a call with me and my nightly upgrade award was returned to my account. This is completely false as I have never had a call with either of them. They have no issue putting incorrect statements which is an ethical issue...

Consistently shocking across all functions. Moved room 3 times.

Here is the shortened list

  1. Swimming pool unavailable during stay. Was not detailed in App. This has impacted the enjoyment of my stay, however hotel has provided beach vouchers to allow to enjoy the beach without cost.
  2. On arrival 4th July check-in without informing downgraded the hotel room. When I asked they informed this was the case
  3. 4th July Hot water takes 10 minutes to arrive for a shower
  4. 4th July Heated Tower rail in room does not work
  5. 4th July, no bins in room.
  6. 4th July pre-check in using app requested amenities which did not arrive in room
  7. 4th July adjoining door to next room, open, asked for maintenance to fix, twice, but did not arrive.
  8. 4th July room service knocked and called room at 1am. To deliver food for a different room. Woke us up. Very unsettling on first night.
  9. 5th July Guest toilet leaking
  10. 5th July asked to move to different room due to noise overnight and construction next door. Which woke us up. This is despite asking for a quiet room via Ambassador service and to the hotel directly this wasn’t taken care of.
  11. 5th July in new room towels and robes missing, asked to be delivered and housekeeping provide them but simply leave them on dirty sofa. Not very smart or hygienic.
  12. 6th July room 240 guest bathroom leaking.
  13. 7th July bathroom in new room (240) is leaking from two areas in the ceiling.
  14. 7th July when trying to fix during the day, the maintenance did not put buckets to catch water and it’s a health and safety hazard. We both almost slipped and fell in the slippery surface.
  15. 7th July moved to room 217 due to situation unresolved.
  16. 7th July asked to be checked out so room nights could be posted.
  17. 8th July asked to be checked out so room nights could be posted.
  18. 8th July only found out that room 240 was operational at 7pm. All very unsettling and stressful. Clothes and our items were between two rooms.
  19. 8th July concierge messed up car service for VIP. This was managed by an Intern.
  20. 8th July I conducted a soft check-in for my VIP guest (2nd room 229), as she was arriving late. I was informed that the check-in for her would be to present passport and collect room keys. Check-in took her 30 minutes, she explained it was an intern / someone simply not knowing how to...

I plan to stay here for 4 days, because I am a Marriott Titanium member, the night before the check-in, the hotel did not hesitate to upgrade from the city room I originally booked to the Deluxe Guest Room Seafront room (Deluxe Guest Room Seafront) One King), and prepare my birthday cake, welcome drink and macaron 🍾; in addition, Titanium has free breakfast for two guests per night, so the food and beverage part saves a lot of money. Since this room does not have an executive lounge, so extra Free 1000 points or 30 euros catering credit (choose one), and on the last day, I also saw from the APP that the late check-out has been confirmed until 4 o'clock.

After entering the room, you can directly see the sea view, happy 💋 Every morning, I go to the restaurant downstairs to have breakfast. The dining space is very elegant, but there are not many choices. The hot food includes fried mushrooms, scrambled eggs, bacon, European sausages, roasted tomatoes, and eggs in any form, Waffle, etc.; the cold food area includes cheese, smoked salmon, and Mediterranean food; the bread area, dessert area, and various flavors of yogurt (Abricot is the favorite flavor). In fact, the breakfast in Europe is as simple as that in Asian and Middle Eastern restaurants.

At present, JW bathing brands around the world seem to be consistently using Aromatherapy from London, which does not have too much fragrance. Whether it is shampoo, bath and lotion, in response to ESG, they have also changed to a large bottle of push type☝️

The location of the hotel faces the beach, and the whole street is a boutique street, including LV, GUCCI, DIOR, HERMES, FENDI, CHANEL, ARMANI and other big brands. There are also various high-end restaurants next to it. Shopping and eating are very good. convenient location.

In other words, I am very afraid of heat. In April, in the south of France on the Côte d'Azur, although the sun is shining during the day, it will be very cold as soon as the sun goes down, so the hotel will turn on the heating, but in fact I will be too hot. Fortunately, the windows in the room can Open it directly and let the cold wind blow in, otherwise I will really die of heat... Open the window and listen to the sound of the waves while sleeping😴
