UVA - restaurant cannes — Restaurant in Grasse

Did not dine here: not speaking for the food, but for how outright offensive, rude and racist the staff was. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND:

We came here last month looking for lunch with no reservation booked. Asked for a table, was told there were no availabilities inside and was reservation only by the host and two wait staff with her. Inside: a quarter of all the tables were full. We were seated outside in the blazing heat.

Checked their website immediately, there were multiple time bookings available for the next two hours. Booked a time available so we could sit inside in the next ten minutes--went back to the host and asked if we could sit inside instead. She rudely told me- no, our reservation would only let us sit outside. After back and forth to understand what indoor/outdoor dining would be reserved for-- she flat out refused indoor seating with no options. Then she snidely told me sorry in a really belittling tone.

We left because of how absurd this exchange was and she shouted behind my back, "thanks for coming!" in a sarcastic and rude manner.

Will NEVER recommend this place. I don't care what management wants to write as a response. I've never been so disrespected and spoken in such a demeaning tone on my whole trip in France. Work on dealing with tourists and foreigners with equal dignity.

It’s unfortunate when a server’s attitude affects your dining experience but that is what happened last night for us at UVA. The food was wonderful (4.5 stars). We were seated but a cheerful host who recalled my first name when I mentioned we had a reservation and we were seated in the “jungle” passage. Server delivered menus and we ordered. She suggested we change our wine selection to better match our dinner choices which was a great idea and the proper suggestion (thank you). After we order we noticed she walked away with a daily specials chalkboard and we asked to see it as she never told us about it. She brings it back but now I cannot read it as it’s propped behind another guests chair, I ask her to move it out a bit so we can read it and this set off a sneering look and the attitude was cold throughout dinner service. Servers should understand your guest interaction is 40% of the experience, sadly this would have been a 4.5 star review but the experience was tarnished because we didn’t see the specials board and she wasn’t happy about returning with it. We had dinner here earlier today after reading a lot of great reviews, and I must say we were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in, my husband commented on how cool the atmosphere was, especially since they were playing some of the classic hip hop that he loved.

The staff was super nice and accommodating, considering we were walk-ins -- especially Jordan who gave some great recommendations always with a smile on his face. We started with the shrimp tempura and the sucrine salad -- which was a great take on a deconstructed caesar salad. For the main we chose the veal cordon bleu, which was a first for our two little boys (who would instantly let us know if they didn't like something) -- and boy did they love this!

We tried a few of their signature cocktails as well, which did not disappoint (French 75 and the Negroni) and finished off the meal with a delicious chocolate fondant. All in all, we were extremely happy and stuffed! Good music, good food, good atmosphere and great staff will definitely bring...
