La Mercerie — Restaurant in Marseille

one word: AMAZING! If you are in Marseille, there is only a handfull of places to go but this one is really great. Service was very north American; courteous and smooth, smiling and professional. And the food.... the chef is British and boy can he cook! All the cooks are visible to the eye when you sit inside which we did on the really hot day it was and we found the experience mind blowing; watching them work together like a ballet and take so much pleasure in their work. We found the products very fresh and were told most were organic and locally sourced. The ambiance is bistrot chic with a laid back feel that we haven't yet found in Marseille or Aix. We strongly recommend a visit to this gem. They have a terrasse out front. Amazing...

Visiting from Australia, was really impressed by the bar staff's ability to explain the nuances of the wine selections & the particulars of the provenance + dishes in Anglais. The wines paired perfectly with the tasting menu.

The food was absolutely spot on, perfect for a Mediterranean evening in this grungy city. Particularly of note were the gnocchi and the slow cooked lamb dishes - some of the best.

Too busy devouring the food and soaking up the atmosphere to take any pics.

Definitely book @ the bar for the full experience. It was nice to see Back of House (kitchen) and Front of House (bar and wait staff) work seamlessly side by side in an industry where they're often pitched against...

We took the tasting menu with wine pairing. It was brilliant - the food was tasty and well presented and the wines were exceptional. The service was intelligent and engaging.

The first course was swordfish tartare with radishes and citrous dressing. The second was puff pasty with morel mushrooms. The third was spelt risotto with split peas, and grilled cabbage. The fourth course was truly spectacular - veal with peas, asparagus, garlic and mashed potatoes. It was the best veal I have ever had. Dessert was a double - asparagus ice cream with a crumble in one bowl, strawberry with tarragon cream in another bowl.

We felt it was good value for our money given the quality of the food...
