We spent a wonderful early June evening sitting outside in the plein air seating area of Auberge des Chevaliers, enjoying a meal of choucroute garnie with locally brewed (in Strasbourg) beer. The evening couldn't have been nicer, sunny and cool as the sun began to go down.
Service was wonderful. The waiter was nonplussed by our request to split two plates of choucroute garnie between four of us, and when the plates arrived, we were glad we'd made that decision. Servings were enormous, with each plate piled high with roasted pigs' knuckles, two kinds of sausages, and slices of roast pork that our German friends know as Kassler Rippchen.

Read moreGood starter, but the main course I didn't like. That is a mistake I made myself, so consequentely I did NOT let that influence the score. The missing points are for the 'service'. Downright harsh if you happen to come in for a drink only, for which you get verbally executed almost. But the lady waitress also just left the premises for a good 10 minutes, leaving the other staff unsure who she did or didn't care for. On return she did smell like tobacco, I thought. After dinner, the coffee machine broke down. That was brought as just a message rather than making an excuse. I then asked for the bill, but after say 20 minutes I just got up and walked over to the teller to pay, only then to receive the receipt.
