We just returned from a week in Paris. Our apt. was just a couple of steps down the street from this little gem...and gem it is! The beer is very good (I suggest the blonde) and the wine is, well, the wine is French. We dropped in for a drink or two every day, just hanging out at the bar, listened to the jazz playing softly in the background, and planned our evening or closed our day. The little dining room in back is perfect as well...so cozy and comfortable - and the food is very good. Again, we recommend the boeuf bourguignon. You'll need a reservation because the seating is limited - but it's easy, just tell the bartender. Oh, and they open at 8 with fresh croissants, bread, or something more substantial if you desire. The coffee is great! And that brings me to the bartenders/waiters who do everything. They are incredibly friendly and will remember you if you make a return trip. Our French is very poor but we try and they allowed us to speak our broken French and helped us along when we struggled. Au petit fer a cheval was 'our' bar and played a large part in the wonderful week we spent in Paris. Do not miss...
Read moreWhat a nice, quaint, neighborhood restaurant in Marais. There’s a bar area in the front, a couple of small tables in the front that spill out into the street and maybe about 5-6 tables in the back. I didn’t need a reservation for a 1 seat table. The staff were all nice and friendly and tried their best to explain the dishes in English. I opted for their deal of the day which included an appetizer, a meal, and a dessert for 34 euros. I forgot the name of my start but it reminded me of a pate. I didn’t realize that that was what I ordered because I don’t really like pate’s so that was my fault, but it was pretty good though. I then had the duck a l’orange which was superb. Tender, juicy, flavorful and incredibly filling. The creme brulee was classic and the perfect way to end the meal. I definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to save it to my list of restaurants to go to when...
Read moreWe came at around 2:00pm for a late lunch and were seated promptly. We ordered the duck confit, pate, beef bourguignon and a creme brulee to finish.
The foie gras was very smooth and went very well with the crispy bread. They also give complimentary bread so if you didn't have enough for the foie gras it was perfect. The duck confit was crispy and the inside wasn't dry. It was well flavoured. The beef bourguignon was not as impressive as it tasted similar to the ones I can make at home. Would pass on that one. The creme brulee also wasn't as spectacular as expected. Would avoid it as well.
The service itself was fast and really polite and nice. When we wanted the bill it was a bit slow but other than that - really friendly. The bathroom is located next to the bathroom and there is only one stall but it's very clean.
Would recommend this place for the foie gras and...
