I guess this is the place that uses 50% of Paris' egg consumption daily.
When in Paris I always opt-out of the hotel breakfast, which are the same as anywhere else and try to go to a local place. That is how I discovered a lot of my favourite places there (and meals, too!). However, on that December morning Yelp announced that I am really close to a place called Breakfast in America. Sounds like a sign, doesn't it? The place is very small, really reminds you of a US diner, albeit crowded, We took the last free table. It was sooper busy and it remained busy for the whole time we were there, by the time we left there was even a line in the street waiting for a free place! Anyway, the place really got me with my favourite American invention - the botomless mug o'Joe with constant refils of really strong dark stuff that also tasted okay. Their brunch menu consists of three parts: eggs, sweet thing and drink. I went for a veggie omelet and stack of pancakes (maple syrup costs extra, you can always go with the corn syrup fake available for free but why would anyone do that?). Pancakes were great, fluffy enough and with a portion of the maple syrup and coffee there was nothing to complain about. The veggie omelet comes with peppers, mushrooms, onions and cheese. The portion is big (my guess 3-4 eggs) and it is done just right, just a bit too greasy though. The vegetables and mushrooms inside are not overdone, so a very good choice, too. My only complaint would be the hectic feeling of the place, with as much tables inside as possible, which means sometimes you will be clashing elbows with the person at the next table and getting to the table or leaving reminds a expert game of Tetris, especially in winter with coats involved. All in all, very good option if you want to change from your typical brasserie and/or if you're an American who is really...
Read moreFirst morning in Paris just after arriving via the airport we walked around a little bit towards the Pantheon and Notre Dame, and we thought let's get some breakfast. We didn't spend a lot of time looking for a place, we just saw the Breakfast in America sign and said "let's go there". We got some fresh homemade orange juice, a scrambled eggs with sausages dish and 3 pancakes with buttered maple syrup. The scrambled eggs was good, the sausages however had a weird taste and were of some kind that we haven't seen before at all. The pancakes were nice, fresh and smooth, but the maple syrup supplied with them wasn't enough for 1 pancake, let alone 3. The fresh juice was bad, it felt like condensed cheap juice mixed with lots of water. 31.5€ we paid for this breakfast. Was it worth the amount? Not at all. Was it... American style? Maybe a little bit. It definitely wasn't the good kind of American breakfast to be honest, and most definitely, not American quantity! Thankfully this was the only bad choice we made during our whole tl holiday week in Paris! Go to Jozi...
Read moreThis restaurant should be called "Breakfast in America - if you have never been to America." Visited for a late breakfast on a Sunday afternoon. Requested a booth. Despite the place being 60% empty, the manager rudely said we needed to sit where he wanted us to sit, and that all the empty booths were for "others". The "un-american" rudeness of the manager has been noted in multiple previous reviews.
Ordered eggs, bacons and pancakes. The eggs were fine, the bacon was over-cooked and hard, and the pancakes were undercooked with incompletely cooked batter inside the pancakes.
They advertise an "endless" pot of coffee - and for good reason. I was barely able to drink one cup! The coffee was burnt and was definitely the worst cup of coffee I had ever tasted. I had to beg for creamer, and when I asked for Splenda or similar sugar substitute, I was brought sugar cubes.
I would never recommend this place to anyone I liked. A much better breakfast for less can be had at any other Parisian restaurant. It made Dennys seem like...
