Eat nâ saj here is my new favorite thing to do in Paris. From the moment we walked in, we knew this would be a special place.
We were warmly welcomed into the restaurant by the host, who we learned owned this place with his family (brother and mother). When I say it was a warm welcome, I mean it felt like weâd known each other for a long time and I was coming to dinner at their home.
He went through the menu options with us in English, offered suggestions and took our order of Taouk (chicken) saj, fattoush salad, 2x falafel, and hummus. Look at this photo of the hummus as an example of how much love this family puts into their restaurant and their patrons. They make sure you feel comfortable.
And the food did not disappoint. It was likely the best saj Iâve ever had - even compared to the options Iâve had at home. The chicken was tender and the composition of herbs and sauce were both cooling and deeply flavorful. The falafel was equally special, with a small tomato at the base, making each bite refreshing and a little more moist. The fattoush salad, though they used an iceberg lettuce that fell a bit flat in flavor, did not disappoint overall. The hummus was also great.
Before we left, they offered dessert, and we ordered the baklava, though we donât often leave room. Iâm glad we did this time because it was the flakiest, most flavorful Iâve ever tasted. Though not made in house, itâs made by a local baker and delivered fresh every day. I canât believe how good these were. He even sent us home with 2 just because I said they were delicious.
I canât wait to tell all my friends who visit Paris that a meal at Cookân Saj feels like a warm hug from a friend you havenât seen in...
Read moreWe stumbled onto this place after a long day of exploring on a freezing January day, and it was like a warm, welcoming hug. The Mediterranean focused menu has Sai (sandwiches), burgers, sides, and desserts, and seemed very vegetarian friendly. The menu also has English translations so it was very easy to understand and order as someone who does not speak French. I got the Mama Lova (chicken burger), and my husband got the Falafel Saj, and we got an eggplant cream (Baba Ghanoush) to share. Both dishes were generously portioned and so, so tasty! The falafel in the sandwich was perfectly crispy, with a mixture of sauces and veggies. The Mama Lova burger is one of the best chicken burgers Iâve ever had, with a delicious Lebanese twist. The Baba Ghanoush was also perfectly seasoned and a great accompaniment to our entrees.
Special shout out to the owners who maintain such a lovely atmosphere and immaculate vibes in the restaurant. They seem to have a great rapport with their regulars, and were very kind and friendly to us!The pita served with our Baba Ghanoush was cut into a heart shape, a lovely little touch.
The restaurant has very cozy seating, and shines through with the ownerâs personality.
Would love to be back on our next trip! I am already dreaming of my next...
Read moreWe went here after the Louvre, primarily because it was one of the only places still open after 2:30p, and we were starving. It looked highly rated and fun, so we walked over. Now that Iâve been to both places, I can confidently tell you to just skip the Louvre (you can more closely study Da Vinciâs masterpieces online) and go directly to Cookân Saj â unless you want a stuffy, crowded, overwhelmingly busy experience to further enhance the relaxed, tasty time youâre sure to have at Cookân SajâŠ
I cannot adequately describe for you how enjoyable our experience was at Cookân Saj. Please go. Itâs all amazing. We got the humus and a big plate of their rice, chicken, beef, and salad â enough for two to share. The bread that comes with the hummus is a great time.
Our server was Nikoleta, and sheâs fantastic. If youâre American or primarily an English speaker, who has undoubtedly spent some amount of your visit smiling uneasily through one-sided conversations of rapid fire French, only to fumble the word âMerciâ and almost die of cringe, you will feel warmly welcomed here.
Anyway, we told them that we liked Cookân Saj better than the Louvre. I promise...
