For our first night in France, we left the day open to explore around our hotel. We decided on this spot for dinner, as it was near our hotel and had 2 of my must have dishes on the menu. Interestingly enough, they have crickets on the menu. We didn't try them because our son actually ordered some for us at home a couple of years ago so there was no mystery for us in that dish. We were warmly welcomed and the service was great. Our server was not timid about helping my husband decide between two dishes and we really appreciate that! We opened with an espresso and a French Martini. My husband didn't realize he was getting a tiny little espresso when he ordered a decaf coffee, so we had a good laugh at a lesson learned. I wish we could say we learned our lesson, but he made the same mistake a couple of times before he learned to order it in a large cup. LOL
The martini was not at all as I expected. It was very different from the states but I figure they know what they are doing with the drink. I quite enjoyed it once I realized it was not what I thought it would be. We started our trip with what became a nightly ritual - burgundy snails. We LOVE escargot and have never had these with the green sauce on them. It was fun to finagle them out of the shells but we did discover that snails are fairly small when served in France. Although small, they pack a great flavorful punch.
My husband ordered the Poke Drakar salad and he said it was delicious. He loved the way the salmon was prepared and the edamame gave it a nice freshness. I couldn't wait to try a Croq Monsieur so that's what I ordered. I really liked it! It was cooked perfectly and had a ham and cheese ratio for the filling. The side salad was absolutely delicious! It was a great surprise and of course the fries were wonderful. I'm not a mayo fan, but the little crock of mayo looked rich and creamy - I didn't try it.
Although this was our only visit to this establishment, it was a perfect introduction to casual French dining and the staff made us feel so comfortable as we practiced our very limited...
Read moreStopped there for a late lunch with my wife and son 15 May 2013. The food was passable, if expensive (location=extortion). My son paid for the meal, but as he didn't have much cash, asked me to leave the tip. I got my wallet out and did (20%), and placed my wallet on the table. The tightness of the restaurant meant the table had to be pulled out for my wife to get ouit, and in doing so my wallet fell, unnoticed, to the floor. We were outside when a waiter came out with my wallet. Unfortunately it was 100€ light! When I pointed this out, another waiter stated they had cameras I could check to prove they were honest. I went back in and was passed from one person to another and the supposed manager (a woman who had been sitting at a table doing paperwork) said the camera s wouldn't cover where we had been sitting and she "knew her staff" and they would never do anything like that. All I know is there wasn't anyone else sitting nearby; only a waiter handled the wallet; and after I paid the tip there were two 50€ bills and one 10€ in the wallet. The only bill left was the 10€ when the waiter handed it to me. For what it's worth I would have given the waiter a reward of one of the 50€ bills, all I can do now is warn others to avoid this den of VERY dishonest people, if not thieves.
So a year+ later the "owner" responds. Here is mine: one of your waiters is a thief, and I was out €100 to them. As I said in my original review: AVOID this den of...
Read moreWe were served by mister pretty boy who was a tad arrogant and judgemental towards people who don't speak French and therefore didn't understand him. Not sure if he was also rude to me because of me being homosexual.
Let's start at the beginning. He pointed out a table for me and my boyfriend to sit at, but vaguely. So we chose a different one which he then had to dress, which he did aggressively, messy and totally ignoring us. We ordered coffee, but he forgot mine.
Then as soon as I closed my menu he came to us, even though my boyfriend was still trying to figure out what to order. I looked at him angrily because I found his behavior to be rude and disrespectful, so he dripped off.
When he came back, we ordered. My boyfriend, who speaks and understandd French quite well, said he forgot my coffee. He then brought it to me without the little cookie he gave my boyfriend. Of course he ignored me. I think he 'forgot' my coffee and was being rude because I ordered in English. He also kept addressing my boyfriend with 'monsieur' as if I wasn't there.
The food was horrible. We went to McDonald's right after we finished, because we were still hungry. The fries there...
