I am awake with jet-lag, just having left the Normandy Hotel in Paris, on August 7, 2018 for a 3 day stay, and since I.m. awake, I felt compelled to write this review. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would give it a 5 star rating, but would encourage the management to give the interior a little TLC, so I would like to give it a 4+ rating. Yes, you see some chipping paint and some worn-areas, but it was clean and I didn't notice odors, as one reviewer did. But, there were so many positives, that made the experience so well-worth it, for the reasonable price. The twin bedroom was quite large, with adequate closets, a working safe, a refrigerator and a bathroom with the huge tub with a shower extension -- just what I wanted. We asked for a fan, which worked well, and with air-flow from an open window, it was quite comfortable. For me, It offered that old-style charm of Paris, so I didn't expect a lot of modern amenities. Plus, its right in the heart of Paris center. It was walking distance to the Louvre, the Opera House, the Seine, the Left Bank, and a very short distance to the Eiffel Tower, the Cathedral and other major attractions, even a Carnival. Furthermore, it's in the middle of great food and shopping - both reasonable and up-scale, hop-on/off tour buses, an express bus to CDG near the Opera House, and Metro and bus transportation that can take you all over the city. I also felt very safe at night, sightseeing, in this area, as a single woman, What I really loved about this hotel was the staff. The night staff attendant, Mr. Sodrhaib Ms. Ana, the day staff, and the evening attendant (sorry don't remember his name), must be especially applauded for their pleasant attitudes and willingness to serve and please. A young lady on the morning breakfast staff gave me orange juice when I told her that I didn't eat a big breakfast. The house-keeping was also very good with more than adequate towels and well-made, comfortable beds. Overall, I got only warm, helpful attention with a "smile". I will return to the Normandy Hotel and will highly recommend it to others. Last note for your planning - they do have a suggested air port shuttle service that can be arraigned, but It turned out to be an adventure. I was told that I would be one pick-up, but instead 3 other couples were picked up in various sections, and this delayed me by 13 minutes to take my scheduled flight. However, "positivEnergy" works - my rerouted flight, turned out to be better travel for me. In all, I am so appreciative of all that I experienced at the Normandy Hotel and I look forward to returning again and again,...
Read moreThis was such a wonderful experience that exceeded my stay at a 5-star hotel nearby. No, not the Ritz, but very close.||It all started even before I left Los Angeles for France, when the staff, upon my request, kindly emailed me a curated list of recommendations for restaurants and bars, complete with links to each.||The same person who was kind enough to take the time to do so was the one who escorted me to my third-floor room on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It was Loïc, one of the wonderful front desk staff, who took a great deal of time explaining everything in the room, including tuning the television to some favorite channels.||I must first mention the incredibly roomy bathroom, nearly as large as the bedroom, with a full size bathtub, separate shower and toilet and an oversized sink. There was a separate vanity as well for cosmetic items within easy reach.||Everything in the room was ergonomic and the lighting was bright, something which most hotels are sorely lacking. There was a lovely, high-quality refrigerator stocked with beverages and counter space above it for a coffee maker, ice bucket and glassware.||The closets, drawers and safe were along the wall and there was a massive desk to spread out my laptop and paperwork with room to spare, which was such a treat.||The bed was incredibly comfortable with an array of pillows and upholstery on some of the decorative ones matched the pattern of the curtains of the two windows, one of which led out to a charming terrace with a sweet view of the quiet street below.|Despite there being some busy cafés on the street, there was no excess noise that would disturb sleep – or naps.||There is an onsite restaurant serving Mexican food, and a downstairs bar, which sadly, we did not get to experience due to other commitments. But we did get down to breakfast and it was quite pleasant. One of the serving staff was kind enough tell us about a nearby park that was one of his personal favorites, a green space a bit off the beaten track.||But speaking of locations, Normandy Le Chantier is walking distance to the Louvre and when you cross a bridge over the Seine, Musée d'Orsay.||The hotel is part of the Machefert Group, which owns other properties in Paris, but we can’t wait to return...
Read moreIt’s really too bad for this hotel. If the owner of the hotel can read this, I highly suggest that you get rid of the so called “president” of your hotel, a rude old man! The hotel has a great potential, nice room after renovation and great location, only 2 staff, the male receptionists were extremely nice but the problem was the woman receptionist named “Sophie” who totally got all mixed up about our appointment for 4 nights 2 rooms even though we have already paid the guarantee first night and the payment already went through as we have already confirmed by the male receptionist in the morning. In the evening this lady contacted us and said that our reservation was about to be cancelled even though I had already paid the deposit of first night. I had no idea how she worked. We had more problems coming to the hotel as this hotel asking us to pay for everything at check-in. Already this is not very normal asking to pay €3000 at check-in. Then we had a big fight and someone on our side was yelling too loud to the receptionists. The so called arrogant “president” of the hotel came down, he didn’t even come and ask what is wrong and tried to help his team to solve the customer problem. He just yelled and said if you open your mouth again I will call the police and throw you out of the hotel. I can understand why the team at the hotel work so bad, it is because they have an unprofessional and horrible president. He was ready to threw customers out of the hotel without giving back the money. We didn’t really care to leave and go somewhere else but they had to give back the money. So in the end, we negotiated with the manager and she gave us back the money. They lost the money all because of the stupid president who doesn’t how to handle the situation professionally. There are many hotels in Paris so there are many competitions but you don’t have a room for bad president who will take down...
