Le Jardin d'en Face was likely at one time a great dining spot, however today it's propped up by the area and reviews of it's former glory days.
Let's start with the good stuff, because there are some good things here and that's why we're discussing a 3-star review and not a 1. The location is at the foot of Montmartre which gives this place instant charm. The restaurant itself is cozy, tight but not overly so and there's outdoor seating. The staff work tirelessly and you don't need to wait long for their fast service, and they're friendly to boot.
What's wrong then with the place? The food, plain and simple. There is not anything special happening in the kitchen. The portions are small. The shepards pie (parmentier) had, and this is no joke, 2 spoonfuls of actual duck meat inside - I make parmentier at home and this blew my mind. The shrimp meal was fine but had the person not ordered a starter and had a few bites of dessert, they would've left hungry, as I did.
Additionally the creativity of the food choices, in my opinion were not there for a 4.7 (at the time of this review) review rating restaurant. There was one fresh fish on the menu which did look appetizing and of the appropriate size for a standard human being.
Lastly, I'm just going to call it. I would love to visit a "French Restaurant" and have actual French Chefs in the kitchen. Not to say that foreign workers can't cook but come on, we...

This created an intimate cosy atmosphere and we were delighted to be told by the French couple on the next table that we had made a good choice of restaurant.
Our friendly neighbours recommended a starter of scrambled egg topped with foie gras...so much greater than the sum of it's parts. My brothers and I knew at that point we had found foodie heaven. Plus it's on 3 Brothers Street which was clearly a good omen for me...
Read moreThis is a very small and cute restaurant. Some years ago I wrote this to a friend after my trip to Paris: "On the evening we went to a restaurant called “Le Jardin den face”. Sulli wanted to bring us there as we were supposed to test “L’oeuf cocotte au foie gras” which definitely exceed expectations. The recipe is quite easy but the result is a Caprice de Dieux. I would say it was a base of crème fresh with a drop of olive oil, then one egg (be careful not to break it) and all covered by French foie gras. This hole thing should go to the oven at 180° during something like 5 min. Be careful as the egg needs to be quite raw! The mixture of this with good Baguette bread is something you can only experience in Paris, or I hope soon...
