My family stumbled upon this quaint restaurant near Place du Tertre, and decided to give it a shot. Run by only one server and one chef, the service was excellent throughout and the food came swiftly. It was 6 minutes away from Place du Tertre, but the walk was worth it, as the restaurants nearer to Place du Tertre were way more expensive and more packed.
The restaurant offers lunch sets which are really affordable and worth the money (18€ for starter/dessert + main; 23€ for starter + main + dessert). We ordered both foie gras dishes and the french onion soup for starters, where the former were very good while the latter was lacking compared to other places in our opinion. Next, we had the beef bourguignon (beef stew), which came with stretchy mashed potato, and bourguignon burger (beef burger), which came with very crispy fries, for our mains. They were big portions and were absolutely delicious. Lastly was the dessert: café gourmand, which consisted of a coffee, ice cream scoop, and chocolate mousse. Despite our fullness from the starters and mains, we finished the dessert as it was just that good. Overall, we would recommend everything we got except the onion soup, as we personally preferred the taste from other restaurants.
The most commendable part of the experience was the service. Despite there only being one server, he was very patient and made sure to pay attention to every single table. He entertained all our questions on the dishes and gave us thorough explanations. He was friendly and went around chatting with different customers. He was also thoughtful and constantly made sure everything was alright, and also was quick in refilling the bread when we ran out. Though we did not get his name, I’m certain this is the friendliest server I’ve ever met.
Tldr: if you want to eat a nice and satisfying meal at a place with great ambience and service, while also not busting a hole in your wallet, this is the...
Read moreOut of the thousands of places to eat in Paris, I'm so happy I discovered Mamie Colette in Montmartre, 18th arrondissement. Thanks to excellent Google reviews and the authentic looking menu, I called and booked a spot. I'm lucky I got in as it was just jam packed. The waitress was lovely and helpful! Inside the restaurant, you feel like you are home. It's so cozy, it makes you want to settle in and take your time eating delicious food and chatting the night away. I ordered the fois gras (first time) and it was so so good, light and creamy. Served with warm bread, a side salad and onion confit. For mains, I went for the boef bourguignon and mash, accompanied by a bourgoigne pinot noir. Where to start?! The mash.... my God. It resembled dough in its consistency from all the cheese beaten in. But when you put it in your mouth, it settles on your tongue for a second and then just melts away in pure food glory. I've never tasted mash like that! Now couple that with the most tender, deeply rich beef stew made with red wine and you have yourself a stunning, hearty and heavenly dish that will play on your mind for a very, very long time. The total cost of the starter, main and glass of wine came to 25 Euro. For 4 more euro you could get a dessert included. I could not manage that as I was already in a food coma, with some leftovers for later! If anyone is going to Paris, I will forever point them here for authentic, reasonably priced and absolutely fabulous food....
Read moreWow, just wow! The best meal I had whilst visiting Paris.
I booked the table several weeks in advance (online) to avoid disappointment when I got there and i' glad I did so as the resturant was fully booked. We were seated outside and could watch the world pass by in a quaint little street, a 5 minute walk away from the Sacre Coeur.
There is an option to get a starter, main and glass of wine / soda or main, dessert and wine / soda for €26.50 so thats what we decided to do.
To start I had the onion soup and this was delicious. Filled with flavour, soft onions, bread and stringy delicious cheese. This came with a side of bread also.
For mains we had beef bourguingnon traditionall. This was marinated in red wine for 6 hours and so incredibly tender and full of flavour. This is served with the best mash I have ever had (and I dont like mash). The mash is without a single lump and mixed in with stringy flavourful cheese. Delicious.
My partner had the bourguingnon burger, with lettuce and again melted cheese on top. This was to die for. This is served either with the mash mentioned above or french fries.
Then for dessert we had a chocolate mousse. Rich, intense flavour and the perfect finisher.
Next time I return to Paris I will try and come to this hidden gem of...
