Great expectations basing on reviews… I never found such a gap between reviews and reality. Let’s start from the pros: the foie gras was at the level of the comments made by others. The rest of the food… the escargot were coming without the shell. A no go considering the other ones I could taste in these few days in Paris. We then went for magret de canard and cow au vin. Canard was just cooked as a steak and oil completely covered the taste. The coq was (to me) not cooked long enough and chewy. Location: is very particular, with some medieval style drawings on the walls. Unfortunately the dining room in the ground floor, where we were eating, is very small and surrounded by the desk of the bar and the kitchen that, being part of the room, is letting clients with a strong smell of grilling meat. Maybe a table on the second floor would be a better choice. Service: the 2 persons serving were nice and super active. Unfortunately the quality of the service was a bit messy and improvised: the table clothes removed from the previous clients were cumulated here and there, the orders being delivered to the tables originated some noisy discussions between the person in the kitchen and the waiter, and lastly the “chef” was, not getting into details, not properly dressed for being in the kitchen of a Restaurant in the center of Paris. Bill could have been appropriate to what we ordered, but quality was not at the same Level. All in all, the this restaurant is over-rated. I have found more balanced the ratings given to „Petit Baccus“, the previous Name of the Restaurant (still reported on the...
Read moreFirst ones seated at 1830 on a Sunday. Shortly thereafter, more patrons. Everyone was either American or Canadian. We had a carafe of wine and two local beers. We ordered the goat cheese salad and onion soup to start. Salad was fairly good, but sliced goat cheese on white bread diagonals. Not warm or grilled. Onion soup is served with croutons and grated cheese on the side. The soup was hot and fairly tasty. Main courses ordered were beef bourguignon and salmon with lentils. The beef was hearty, plentiful and served with carrots and potatoes. Sadly, the potatoes were cold. Appears to be a heated up dish. Would have been fine if served hot. Salmon was thinly sliced smoked salmon. An olive oil drizzle, but not one lentil. It could have been the onslaught with only the two folks staffing the place, but it was disappointing. First place we have gone in 5 nights that was filled with North Americans and not a single local. I believe it was just the first service and hopefully, improved. Great old building with lots of character. Che Lillian was delightful, just not on her game for our service. A 7/10… However, we will...
Read moreFantastic French meal! We stumbled upon Aux Anysetiers du Roy while extremely hungry around 10pm. We did not have much energy to dine in for a long while and were happy to find a takeaway window with the options of delicious traditional meals. Also we were needing to get back to our room to pack. (Sad!) We were greeted by a very busy and energetic woman who took our order, while smelling wonderful aromas from the kitchen. I ordered the Beef bourguignon and my husband had the duck dish with raisin sauce. They gave a baguette in the bag also. I have never had carry out this good. The flavors were absolutely amazing! I literally just finished my meal (dragging the baguette through my husbands sauce) and had to come write a review before I forgot. Highly recommend if you’re in the area during your visit. It might have been the best meal we had in Paris, and that is saying something because we were blown away at Le Soufflé. We tried a lot in only a few days, including escargot and steak tartar. The flavors of our meals here trumped it all. Thank you for the...
