I really wanted to like this place. We were on the hunt for some lunch in the area. When we walked up to it, the tables were all full outside. Seemed promising. We had made eye contact with the waitress who only spoke french. She knew we were hungry and found us a table near one corner of the space. It was small inside, maybe a dozen or so tables. Half of the room was taken if by a large table of 8. There were only two ladies busing tables, taking orders, & working the register. It was all down hill as soon as we sat down. In short, it was a very Long wait for sub-par over priced food. The only redeeming quality was the scone plate we shared as a starter. The dessert looked good but my experience was ruined at the moment when one of the waitresses brought out house-made? Pineapple juice as an apology for the long wait, after we long finished out scones and were waiting on our main. Our dishes, seemed simple, but not well executed. My husband’s salmon tartine was burnt toast on a plain bed of salad. mine was even easier to make; also a tartine but with dried beef basically and a "poached" egg that was over cooked (see photo). I wish I could get back 2.5 hrs of my life. I could complain a whole lot more of why my experience was so bad, but I’m not...
Read moreWe live around the corner and have been here more than a few times...a few times too many, that’s for sure. Overpriced, poor quality, service is absolutely abominable..the wait staff has no experience and it is reflected in the way they serve customers as well as the food (where savoir faire & hygienic conscientiousness is not reflected). Dishes have been ubiquitously bland, greasy, dry, rubbery, or otherwise unpalatable, even with the stingy portion sizes on all occasions we have dined. You will wait eons to leave food on the plate...
We kept going back as it masquerades as a cute, cozy place to enjoy a lazy Sunday brunch and people watch (tables are always full), but no. The only redeeming quality is their tea menu, which is varied (but I do not appreciate the conduct of the servers- who come to the table unannounced and push the tea steeper back in the pot when the tea is overbrewed and going bitter! I ordered the tea, let me enjoy it as I wish! Very unprofessional!).
If you want a good meal and you’re on Cherche Midi at the right hour, go to Simple down the street. For another Teahouse - Mamie Gateaux is also down the street. No comparison in...
Read moreWhen I returned for permanent to live snd work in Paris, little did I know I would find the best restaurant right around the corner from my apartment, let alone the best chef and most loving community host. Lola has been running this tea room for years and the reason it is so warm and so lovely is not just due to the absolutely excellent and always fabulously prepared food, but for each person who comes and shares it. Lola creates community where we all gather and pass by each snd every day. Even for a hug on a day and a little chat in the afternoon. Lola has made her life and her love this tea room and it is evident in every dish and every smile that is served and shared. I most likely will never move purely because I’d never want to leave the best block and restaurant, with the best neighbors (&&& claufoutis!!:)
