It was our final night before flying home. Undecided on The Last Dinner, we debated over rounds of googling and finally settled on The Restaurant Next Door. Strolling down the streets dotted with many dark and dimly lit oh-so-cool restaurants, a bright glowing shopfront came into sight. We couldn’t help but peer into Parisik’s invitingly light cosy set-up and ruminated over their menu. Walking on to The Restaurant Next Door, it somehow didn’t feel right for The Last Dinner anymore. So we retreated and backed into Parisik.
And my goodness, what joy it was to stumble onto this gem of a restaurant!
The dishes were thought-through and beautifully plated in their simple beauty. Yet with every nourishing bite, one could appreciate the effort that goes into achieving such umami goodness. They were well-seasoned and intentional in accentuating the freshness of the ingredients, without being overpowering or overzealous. The mushrooms were moorish and comforting. The caramelised roasted vegetables were brightened with an appetizing citrus dressing. The meats were very competently handled – tender, juicy and filled with such natural sweetness. The twist on the bimbabap, while keeping the traditional dish very recognizable, elevated it with such pretty colors and flavours.
Many restaurants often fall flat in their fusion attempts, but Parisik was able to translate the cultural fusion very respectfully. As we worked our way through the menu, we could appreciate the distinct influences and techniques from Korea and France adopted by the chef. Indeed, we applaud Nam Hyun’s focused approach in his storytelling through food, of his roots and how life and love has influenced him.
Beyond enjoying the food, we were smitten with Karen who managed the front of house. Stepping into the restaurant felt like a homecoming of sorts. Her warm and vivacious presence made the dining experience such a relaxing evening filled with laughter, exchanging of stories, and sharing of inspirations. Hearing Nam Hyun’s and Karen’s journeys to setting up Parisik, everything about the restaurant makes even more sense.
Thank you Nam Hyun and Karen for being such wonderful hosts. It was an honour to end our trip with Parisik and to be able to partake in your stories even...
Read moreAbsolutely stellar experience. Korean food based on traditional dishes, but with an inspiring and modern French touch, everything homemade up until the last detail with lots of Umami flavours.
From the moment we got our little kimchi infused tomatoes as an amuse bouche, we knew we are in great hands. I can highly recommend trying as many entrées as your group can fit in their stomachs, they are almost all exceptional (my favourite were the rice cakes - mind-blowing despite not sounding that special - bulgogi salad and XO noodles). I’m sad we were only 2 so we couldn’t try the whole menu. The host was very kind and super welcoming, the place has a very nice style and atmosphere. ...
Read moreParisik is a delightful fusion gem, seamlessly blending Korean flavors with a touch of French flair. The bimbimbap, crafted with vibrant purple rice and a choice of protein, delivers a symphony of freshness and flavor. Their beef option, generously marinated, is a standout. Opting for a variety, we indulged in three starters, with the gnocchi & mushroom stealing the spotlight with its earthy umami richness. As a spice enthusiast, their homemade chili sauce hit all the right notes, elevating the experience. Despite its small size, Parisik exudes a cozy charm; booking ahead is advisable. Service is as warm as the dishes themselves, rounding off a memorable...
