Define step above usual Italian fare • Comfortable relaxed place, featuring dishes that elevate and improve on classic northern Italian dishes. The vignarola Romana was a spring green perfection of peas, favas and snow peas, with a brilliant topping of sharp but mellow pecorino ice cream. The vitello tonnato was textbook. Main plats were perfect tender ravioli stuffed with ricotta and topped with smoked fish eggs, and a nice rouget that was a bit flawed by too much salt from the olive stuffing and prosciutto wrapping. While we had anticipated sharing a few small plates and then one pasta, we were roundly told by the sommelier that no, we had to each get the lemon seafoam linguine that we were eyeing because it was that good. She was correct. We enjoyed immensely the roasted leeks, as well. We drank an absolutely delicious bottle of Marte Spumante (woman-owned, perfect!) at her suggestion and finished the night with complementary limoncello.
