Tanat - Archives (ex. Kawa) — Restaurant in Paris

We‘ve been the first time at Kawa after a good friend of mine had some very good coffees there and mentioned i should try. In the bigger spot there was two very kind baristas making us a really outstanding filter coffee & a more regular but also perfect cappucino. Then we tried the second location too and had again two really kind baristas. We ordered a filter coffee again & got something very special. The barista gave is 2 different shaped cups and let us know that maybe the different shapes will let to shlitly different taste. I heard about that but never experienced it. So all and all more than a 10/10. I Tool one of their coffees home but never hit the sweetspot in my opinion. So i ask them on their instagram page and got a full recipe back. at first I wanted to write a good review because decaf was great (and it was made by a guy). the second time I came there the lady that was working on that day refused making decaf for me because “it takes too much time to make it”, “you won’t feel the taste of coffee”, etc. when I asked why on the previous day the guy made me a decaf in 1 minute and it was great, she said “that’s because he is new and he can’t say no and he wants to be nice to everybody”. she also said she could make a coffee for me instead of decaf because “there’s not so much caffeine there”. for me as a person with zero caffeine tolerance it was weird to hear that and it made me feel unsafe, because people like her can just make you a coffee instead of decaf, ignoring the fact that a customer can suffer from that. this woman was arrogant and she made it clear that she doesn’t really care about the customer’s satisfaction and comfort. why even having a decaf on the menu?… will never come...

What an amazing speciality coffee experience abroad! As a speciality barista coming from Brooklyn I wanted to see what the scene would be like in Paris and how it compared to elsewhere in Europe and in the states and these people know what they’re doing!! This was some of the best, most complex + perfectly balanced coffee I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Not only was I greeted with a cozy & trendy environment, but the baristas were also so friendly and educational and happy to chat despite the language barrier which proved no issue. If you’re looking to explore the true nature of house-roasted beans in espresso & pour overs, this spot is a must and I’ll be thinking about it ever since leaving. ❤️☕️💭 I had to return multiple times in my week long stay just to try as many varieties as I could :-)
