Somehow I didn’t find the time to visit a Boulangerie during my Paris visit. Right before leaving the city, I came across the Union.
At first glance, you wouldn’t think much of this shop. It has no visible or clear sign above the door, just a sticker on the door that says Union. I walked past it to the side street and then, through glass windows, I saw an amazing and mouthwatering display of bread, croissant, quiches, baguettes and pastries. I immediately decided to go in.
It was right around noon when I arrived, which I think is lunchtime. There was a line. They had great looking sandwiches on display (5 Euros each) but unfortunately I wasn’t ready to have lunch yet.
The line goes through fast, everyone behind the counter is willing to take your order and hand it to you. They are all very friendly (most people in Paris are actually like this). The lady behind the counter took my order and she said the croissants hadn’t turned out great on the day so she will give me one for free. It’s a win-win for all! Croissants were delicious, right amount of flakiness and crunch. To think these aren’t up to their standards…
I also asked for Almond Croissants but they were sold out, so I recommend visiting the store earlier in the morning.
I also had the chocolate Babka and a raisin pastry. They were amazing. Wish I had gotten more.
Every shop in Paris does baguette very well, and Union is no exception. I got the classic baguette but they had other varieties which I’m sure is just as good.
There is no place to sit down here. It’s to take away. But that’s part of the charm.
Thank you Union for making my last day in Paris...
Read moreWe tasted croissants from many different bakeries all around Paris in a three day trip. Almost all of them were good but nothing spectacular when compared to croissants in other places. HOWEVER, the croissants of this place -UNION- is an exception. It is far better than any other croissants I had not only in Paris, but in my life -and I have had a lot of croissants.
The butter taste is just perfect. You can feel a good amount of butter but it doesn't make the croissant soggy.
The texture is amazing. It is layer by layer with spongy gaps inside but does not collapse at all.
The flakiness is just perfect. When you bite it, it disperses in your mouth so well that the you feel the butter taste not only on your tongue but it gives a full body feeling.
Summary: I am no educated expert in bakery or cooking but I know what I taste and the croissants taste...
Read moreI randomly found this boulangerie while walking around right after checking into Hotel Veryste, and boy was I glad I did! I came back every morning and towards the evening to pick up croissants, chocolate & almond croissants, chocolate croissants, madeleines, sandwiches (!!), traditional baguette, praline rose brioche, or some other baked goods. I even brought extra to bring to my friends when I flew to Barcelona. Everything I tried was so good, and I especially loved the madeleines and sandwiches! If you're heading out to Versailles, I would recommend grabbing a sandwich to go -- they're tasty, filling, and priced fairly. Moreover, the people who worked here were all really kind and had great recommendations. My only regret was not staying in Paris long enough to try everything here. Truly one of the best boulangeries I've tried during my stay here!...
