To preface, I want to start by saying that this is my first time ever writing a bad review for any establishment. With that being said, I feel that the following is well deserved for this bakery in particular.
The food, notably the quiche and the pizza were decent, but overpriced for how mediocre they were. That being said, the older lady behind the counter (presumably the owner) is a jerk. As an american who was trying his best to assimilate with Parisian culture and be as polite as possible, I was ridiculed. My french isn't the best but I've done some studying and can read and pronounce basic phrases well enough, including the labels on the food selection. Despite this, when ordering, the woman behind the counter tried really hard to pretend as if I was pronouncing everything incorrectly, asking me to repeat each phrase two or three times. This was done for each of the four different things I ordered. The lady behind me began to get agitated at this woman, as she could clearly understand what I was saying and would repeat what I was ordering in order to try and help the woman understand what I was saying. This was clearly an attempt to make me feel bad for trying to speak proper French. Maybe I should have spoken in really fast and convoluted English...
Read moreI recently visited Bretteau Sébastien, a delightful bakery in Paris, and was blown away by their amazing pastries. I tried their croissant and chocolate de pain, and both were outstanding. The croissant, in particular, was the best croissant I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly flaky, buttery, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The chocolate de pain was equally delicious - a soft and fluffy bread filled with rich, decadent chocolate.
I also tried their pistachio cookie, and it did not disappoint. The cookie was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, with a generous amount of pistachio flavor and chunks of nuts.
The bakery itself is charming and cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The display cases are filled with an array of tempting pastries, cakes, and breads, all made with the finest ingredients.
The prices at Bretteau Sébastien are reasonable for the quality of the food, I highly recommend Bretteau Sébastien to anyone looking for an exceptional pastry experience in Paris. The croissant was the standout pastry and alone is worth the visit to...
Read moreWe got the leek quiche, croque-monsieur, and chocolate croissant. We've had better. The croissant was more like bread, no flakes. The quiche was too much like scrambled eggs and the crust could have been more buttery. The croque-monsieur, was ok.
We arrived at 1:30pm to look at the sandwiches and the quiche. We are the only ones there and the young woman asks us right away what we want. So we look and seconds later the older woman starts removing the items from the case as we are obviously looking at it, basically telling us we couldn't order it. I asked the younger woman if it was still available and she said yes. we didn't have enough time to read the labels, so she ended up just telling us what was available and we picked. But I don't understand what was in the older woman's mind removing the labels and items as we are very obviously reading them.
My rating is for the food. If it was about customer service, I'd remove another star. Perhaps she had innocent intentions, but it came...
