Third time to Avoriaz and had previously mixed experiences of Le Chapka and so was going to give this a miss. However, for a couple of days, we went in for drinks at the end of a day's skiing and were impressed with the welcome, the service and atmosphere so we decided to give the dinner service a go. We were told that they took no bookings so we rocked up just after 7pm on the Thursday evening and luckily, shown straight to a table. The place was more or less full but the service was friendly and efficient. The menu had slightly different choices to most others and this included their version of Chicken Fajitas which was different but still very good. Prices were also competitive as well. Would be happy to recommend on this basis
However, the caveat to this is that we went back on Saturday lunch time wanting a drink before our transfer back to Geneva. The location is great, a sun trap in good conditions. The two of us sat down at a table but were asked to sit at a smaller one (which was reasonable). However, no one asked what we wanted and so we sat trying to get attention for another 10 minutes but either we were invisible or just ignored. We left without ordering
We didn't recognise any of the lunch time crew from our Thursday night or other visits so maybe they just get the grumpy ones to...

When we did manage pizza at lunchtime they were very nice) Was it the best food I have ever had? No. However if you relied on some of the reviews on here no one would ever eat there. It is the typical food that many of the restaurants around Avoriaz are serving. Many places serve a 400cl beer and not a pint. Prices wre what i would expect. The staff were friendly and they were kept very busy, it was school holidays so it is to be expected. All perfectly agreeable in our view and we would definitely eat here again next time we...
Read moreStaff are extremely rude (even by French standards) and even that would be an understatement as they were flat out angry and argumentative as they clearly do not like foreigners. Honestly, I worked in hospitality so always emphasise but never have I seen staff make you feel so unwelcome and it wasn't even that busy. Angrily told us each member of our table has to order food or we have to leave?! Then proceeded to see him tell 2 girls they have to order more or leave 2 minutes after they finished eating?? If there was a queue outside I'd understand but it was half empty?!
Worth going a little further down into town where the other restaurants have much...
