We decided to have dinner here due to the abundance of good reviews, which unfortunately proved to be a mistake. After entering and sitting down, we quickly found out that the service barely spoke any english (apart from a few learned phrases); I’m sure this might sound like an entitled rambling of a foreign tourist, however, in a touristy part of a quite touristy town, one could expect a certain level of English proficiency from a service member of a chic restaurant such as this one. After ordering the Papavero signature pizza and a pork BBQ with a side of bread and adjika (the idea of ordering sides was a challenging one to communicate, to say the least), we waited around an hour for food to be brought by the pretty disorganised staff (it seemed that most of the members were part-time workers and their division of labor was very chaotic). The definite article before “food” was left out on purpose, as the pizza certainly didn’t fit the description in the menu. The pizza was slightly below average, the best-fitting word would probably be “edible”. As for the pork BBQ, the meat was quite good, albeit a bit dry. The sides, though, don’t even get me started… As for the bread, it was really, and I cannot stress this enough, really far from fresh, and therefore, not enjoyable at all. I’ve received two garnishes – adjika and a complementary one that I do not recall the name of. One of them was okay, not exceedingly good, but okay. The second one, however, was extremely salty, to the point of being inedible. After reluctantly finishing our meals, we’ve waited no less than 30 minutes for the staff to take note of us, with no avail. After telling a waiter that I would like to pay and get the rest of the pizza packed, there were more communication issues. Finally we’ve managed to leave the restaurant with three slices of cold pizza thrown into a plastic bag and very mixed feelings. The...
Read moreOur experience at this restaurant in Kutaisi was genuinely heartwarming. As we walked in, the bustling ambiance brimming with the chatter of locals and visitors alike could have been overwhelming. However, the owner personally greeted us and effortlessly found us a table despite the crowd.
His proficiency was evident as he explained the menu to us with impressive eloquence and made us feel truly welcome. The culinary journey commenced with a backdrop of live European music, adding to the overall ambiance of the place.
Dining under a canopy of grapevines in the courtyard added an element of tranquillity to the otherwise energetic atmosphere. The charm was undeniable. But it was the food that stole the show. From the cheeses and appetizers to the homemade wine, homemade ice cream, and the cherry tart, every dish was an experience in itself. A real testament to homemade goodness and authentic Georgian cuisine.
Our servers were nothing short of impeccable. Courteous and efficient, they ensured a smooth dining experience. However, I'd recommend introducing some Georgian music to the playlist to enhance the authenticity of the experience, especially for tourists like us.
In conclusion, I'd highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Kutaisi. It's not just a meal; it's a delightful exploration of culture and gastronomy. We couldn't have asked for a...
Read moreLook, the restaurant is probably great but our experience was rather miserable for three reasons: Extremely loud music made it impossible to have a conversation. We had to ask twice to lower it and it barely made a difference. The food was not great. Very dry schnitzel (but who the hell gets schnitzel here, I dont understand my friend either). My chicken tabaca was supposed to be a delicacy but it was expensive for the actual food I got. 4 scrawny wings with barely any meat, impossible to eat. Along with it came waaaaay too much sauce. A stray kitten came by, meowing extremely loud begging for food. After a couple minutes it started jumping on our lap and on the table. None of the staff took any action to do anything. I asked the staff to take it away but it came back. I asked the staff to feed it something to calm it down, they gave it a piece of bread which it didnt even touch (seriously, bread??). After the kitten had nearly clawed the table cloth off of the table, a staff member took it to the back. We didnt see the kitten again but at this point we asked for the check and got out ASAP.
TL:DR the restaurant has great setting and LOTS of choice and probably great options, but we had a bad experience and didnt feel heard...
