I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Georgian restaurant in Kutaisi, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. The restaurant offered a truly authentic taste of Georgia that left me craving for more.
From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm Georgian hospitality. The cozy and inviting ambiance of the restaurant set the stage for what would be a delightful culinary adventure.
The highlight of my visit was, of course, the food. I had the opportunity to savor some of the most authentic Georgian dishes, and they were nothing short of fabulous. The Khachapuri, a traditional Georgian cheese-filled bread, was a warm and cheesy delight that instantly won me over. The flavors of the Adjarian Khachapuri, in particular, were a revelation.
The restaurant also served an array of dishes that showcased the rich culinary heritage of Georgia. I couldn't resist trying the Satsivi, a chicken dish with a delectable walnut sauce, and the Mtsvadi, perfectly grilled meat skewers that were bursting with flavor.
To accompany these dishes, I indulged in some Georgian wine, and it was a perfect complement to the meal. The restaurant's selection of Georgian wines allowed me to experience the depth and diversity of Georgian winemaking.
The service was attentive and friendly, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to explain the dishes to someone new to Georgian cuisine.
In conclusion, my visit in Kutaisi was a journey into the heart of Georgia's culinary traditions. The restaurant's commitment to serving authentic Georgian food made for a memorable dining experience. If you're in Kutaisi and looking for an authentic taste of Georgia, I highly recommend this as a must-visit destination. It's a place where you can savor the fabulous flavors of this...
Read moreThe plates are too small for the baked items and so inevitably crumbs and lobi (beans) scatter all over the table which is visually unpleasant and also requires extra cleaning from the staff (incredibly they still didn't figure this out).
The atmosphere is casual, the wc is clean and the staff are welcoming but the walls are full of yellow and green office notes and currency notes.
It would be nice as an accent in a corner of the room but in the present format it is a bit of an eyesore.
The food is the typical generic and mundane "Georgian Cuisine" (in fact it is the dozen or so bland and uninspiring dishes that are popularised in restaurants for tourists all over Georgia 🇬🇪 because they require minimal effort in the preparation).
These dishes are fine and even yummy if they are made properly and when they incorporate seasonal herbs and spices but unfortunately the food is bland and clearly lacking in love.
One wonders if any of these local restaurant owners ever visited the fruit and vegetable market in Kutaisi where farm fresh herbs such as basil and coriander are sold.
The sad truth is they surely have but they don't care to buy these herbs because washing and cutting them would "waste" a few minutes of their kitchen staff's valuable time.
The result is food that can typically be found out side a university or college or a stop for truckers.
It is nourishing but not creative hence it does not justify the price tag which in fairness is not high as they don't have a service charge.
A mid sized Estonian 🇪🇪 flag is displayed on the wall.
Perhaps the owner lived or is married to an Estonian.
I travelled extensively in the Baltics and I am sorry to say the food in Estonia is in the top 3 worst cuisines in Europe so I hope the inspiration hasn't...
Read moreSuper disappointed!!! My partner and I are vegan, after consulting with the waiter regarding our dietary requirements we order veg soup, bean stew and Mexican potatoes.... all 3 dishes where served after a 30 minute wait and separately from each other, I watched my partner eat the soup, then I received my strew (which was cold from the fridge) then the potatoes last! even though there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant.
veg soup was salty water broth with 3 cherry tomatoes and a couple of pieces of broccoli and oil floating on the top... served with 3 stale slices of bread
bean stew was ok, bland taste, but come cold and was returned to be heated as they forgot to warm it. The corn bread was inedible as it was rock hard.served with salted cabbage.
Mexican potato, everywhere else in Georgia this is sautéed potatoes with onion and peppers, here it is fried potato wedges with 1 gherkin sliced through it with a mayonnaise dip! (Not vegan friendly!)
When we requested the bill they had charged us extra for a replacement bread for the hard, uneaten corn bread and 3.5 Gel for a tiny pot of ketchup! We queried this and they just didn't say answer they just reproduced the bill accepting no charge for the ketchup! They just try I think.... they took no responsibility for the fact they forgot to heat my dish and I had to wait again and eat separately from my partner!
Not recommended, there was chaos in the kitchen we could here 3-4 people constantly talking in loud voices.
By the time we left there was another 2 tables, one had their order taken twice then both times after 5-10 minutes where told it wasn't available and 1 where 1 person ate and the other person watched and waited for their food to arrive...
