Cafe Argo — Restaurant in Kutaisi

I visited the restaurant this afternoon for lunch, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The food was generally not good, except for the lobiani, which was absolutely delicious.

However, the beef stroganoff was a major letdown. It was made with tomato sauce, which tasted nothing like a proper stroganoff should. The flavour was completely off, and it didn’t resemble the classic dish at all.

The service was extremely poor. The waitress didn’t know the menu well and had no idea what the stroganoff was garnished with. Worse still, she made no effort to find out. We had to wait until the end of the meal to get our lemonade, and even then, it only arrived after we asked multiple times. By the time it was served, the children had already finished eating.

The waiting staff looked unhappy and unmotivated, walking around with sad, tired expressions. It was obvious they didn’t want to be there. They didn’t clear the empty plates and cups until we repeatedly asked them to do so.

They use an electronic menu which takes a long time to load. We waited and waited for it to open, and when we asked for a paper menu instead, the waitress simply shrugged her shoulders, showing no interest in helping us.

Overall, there was no effort to make customers feel welcome. The atmosphere gave the impression that the restaurant has no manager and that the staff are just going through the motions. Everyone looked miserable, and the service reflected that.

Unfortunately we couldn't sit on the veranda next to the River but it was okay then we choose our food and had to wait for 15-20 minutes until the staff reacted to us pressing the service button on the table. After that we ordered and waited another 15-20 minutes and nothing happened. So i asked a staff if we could at least get the bottle of wine that we ordered which doesn't need any preparation. The guy we asked was very nice and brought the wine directly the white wine tsinandali was very fruity and a bit sweet exactly how i like it so I enjoyed it a lot! Shortly after our salad arrived Cucumber and tomato salad with a green chilli on top ot was pretty good but the chilli was very spicy 🥵. Next Ojakhuri arrived the flavor of the pork soaked in wine is amazing alone this dish made ot worth waiting! The potatoes it came with were also full of flavor and very delicious and last we ordered the vegetable pizza in my opinion it could have stayed in the oven a bit longer to make it more crunchy and a bit more tomatoe sauce but overall the food was very good and well worth the price even thought you can probably get it more cheaply outside the city center but you pay for the beautiful ambiente and views too so it was a fair price. Only negative point was the slow service from the staff that was taking care of our table with the drinks...

The outdoor seating is beautiful, with light tree shade and a nice breeze. The indoor area is spacious, comfortable, and very well air-conditioned, which is great during hot weather. There are also river-view tables, but they’re usually full and tend to be in direct sunlight.

One of the highlights is a staircase that leads directly down to the river — you can stop there to enjoy the view and take some beautiful photos.

The menu was a bit hard to read due to unclear translations and some Georgian text and lack of main ingredients, but the waitress was super helpful and guided us through our choices. Note: The burgers are not halal.

We ordered grilled chicken, fried chicken (very generous portion), a Caesar salad with cheese and tomatoes, and rice (one portion of rice is for 1 person). We also ordered a jar of home made lemonade (refreshing).

There are a few parking spots available — they seem to be free, though we’re not completely sure.

I don’t also want to forget the live-music and the talented singer!

Prices are reasonable, and the overall atmosphere is peaceful and family-friendly. Highly recommended for those who enjoy natural surroundings and a calm dining experience...
