Pausenbrot (Shop Aachen) — Restaurant in Aachen

We (3 people) ordered 2 coffee, 1 milk tea and 1 cake. We spent 1,5 hour to 2 hours there.

We are not allowed to use the toilet and the reason is that it's not for the customers. But we saw some customers got the key to use the toilet. It feels weird and confusing, is it because we are asian and the other customers are not asian???????

When we paid, he gave change to my friend 3€ with 6 x 50 cents eventhough we saw that he has some 1€ and 2€. When my friend asked him politely to give back with bigger coins, he said something like "if you want, you can change it by yourself". It was really disrespectful and impolite!!!

We went there to have a nice afternoon, not to get insulted like this. And i must say, i don't really know which cafe is the best in Aachen. But for sure, this one is...

So wie die älteren Rezessionen es beschreiben, hatte auch ich das Pausenbrot als gemütliches und nett eingerichtetes Café in Erinnerung. Wenn auch nicht günstig, konnte man dafür bspw. immer leckeres und qualitativ gutes Frühstück erwarten.

Nun ein neues Konzept: Das Erdgeschoss wurde mit rosa und weißen Plastiklooks „aufgehübscht“. Das lasse ich noch als Geschmacksache stehen. Meiner Meinung nach aber ein absoluter downgrade. Die obere Etage ist (bis jetzt) noch erhalten geblieben und sieht definitiv hochwertiger aus.

Mittlerweile bestellt und zahlt man direkt an der Theke. Statt Frühstück gibt es jetzt nur noch Zimtschnecken, Waffeln und Smoothies vom neuen Partner Dr. Detox. Soweit so gut… Bei zwei Zimtschnecken, einem Flat White und einem „Berry excited” Smoothie für 27,60€ hatte ich dann zumindest die gewohnte Qualität erwartet.

Als ich dann aufgerufen wurde, um meine Bestellung abzuholen (wir waren die einzigen Gäste, aber Konzept ist Konzept) war ich einigermaßen sprachlos.

Vor mir stand ein Tablett, die Zimtschnecken in Pappschalen mit Holzgabeln, der Flat White im Pappbecher und der Smoothie im Plastikbecher mit Plastikstrohhalm.

Die Zimtschnecken waren einfach nur mega süß und wie man sie kennt einfach kurz aufgebacken. Ich war nie ein Fan davon aber auch das ist Geschmacksache. Aus Mangel an Alternativen hatte ich mich dafür entschieden. Ob handgemacht, so wie es beworben wird, kann ich nicht wirklich beurteilen.

Der Smoothie “Berry Excited” hat ziemlich sicher noch nie eine einzige frische Beere gesehen und war insgesamt keine Offenbarung.

Den Kaffee für 4,50€ aus dem Pappbecher bekomme ich an jeder zweiten Raststätte mindestens genau so gut.

Long Story Short: Den Laden kann man sich mit dem “neuen” Konzept komplett sparen… Für mich absolut unverständlich, wie man im Jahr 2024 auf die Idee kommt ein neues Konzept anzupreisen bei dem ALLES an Besteck und Behältnissen Müll ist. Für mich nur noch ein Fast Food Café oder Charme und...

Pausenbrot is a unique little spot with great cinnamon rolls and a really cool, cozy interior. It’s the kind of place that feels special and has a lot of potential to be a regular go-to. The cinnamon rolls are delicious, and the vibe is welcoming – most of the time.
