⭐ 1 star / because giving zero isn’t possible. An absolutely humiliating and outrageous experience. Something I never imagined going through, especially in a public place, with my family, after such a beautiful and peaceful Sunday. We were humiliated. There’s no other word.
My name is Adriana Souza, and I live in the city of Aachen. On June 15th, 2025, after attending a beautiful mass at the small church of St. Foillan, we decided to end our week with a family stroll through Aachen’s Town Hall square. The weather was pleasant, the sky still light at around 9 p.m., when we chose to sit down for a coffee at Restaurant and Bar Alex, the one with outdoor seating.
Everything seemed perfect... until the absurdity began.
I ordered a Chai Latte, my husband ordered a coffee. My son Augusto, who didn’t find anything he liked on the menu, opted for a burger from Five Guys, literally less than a meter away from where we were sitting. A simple, harmless scene. Just a family enjoying their time together.
But what followed was surreal.
My order came wrong, instead of a Chai Latte, I received a cappuccino. I took a deep breath. I’m not one to make a fuss, and since I like cappuccino, I let it slide. I had no idea this would turn out to be the least of our problems.
The three of us were sitting there, chatting, my son eating his burger, when we were abruptly approached by a waiter / bald, mustache, extremely rude, who told us in a harsh, authoritarian tone that my son was not allowed to sit with us. That’s right. My own son. Sitting next to me and his father, was prohibited from being there because he hadn't ordered anything from their restaurant.
I was speechless. I tried to explain, shocked, that the terrace was practically empty, that we were a family, that he was our child. And his response?
"I don’t care." I DON’T CARE! Hearing that, in front of my son, with that tone of utter contempt, was the breaking point.
My husband, also outraged, tried to talk, but the waiter was irrational, aggressive, his vein bulging, mocking us, showing zero willingness to listen. We paid the bill and left. Humiliated. In shock. Heartbroken.
The situation was so absurd that the cashier herself apologized for her colleague’s disgraceful behavior, a timid attempt to make up for the irreparable.
This is my complete rejection of this unacceptable treatment. More than poor customer service, it was a gratuitous, senseless emotional assault. A shameful, regrettable episode. A night that should’ve been peaceful ended with an emotional burden we won’t soon forget.
Lack of empathy. Lack of common sense. And above all, a lack of respect for human beings.
We Will nerver return and I strong suggest you all...
Read moreWent this morning for the breakfast buffet. Pretty busy inside, but it might be normal for a Friday at 10am. Food was not bad, particularly for what the price is supposed to be. They had different types of eggs which was a plus, some cold cuts and cheese, a couple salads, veggies, and sauces. Nothing tasted like it was made in house, but it wasn't terrible either.
What was extremely disappointing, hoiwever, was how I was overcharged by at least 5€ and it seems like it was the waitress giving herself a tip. She never offered a receipt before or after payment, just told me the price and asked me to pay cash because the debit machine was not working (but I had seen her at the door getting paid by card half an hour earlier).
Again, it could simply be human error as the restaurant felt like they could use additional waiting staff, but even then the restaurant should have a better system in place. I ended up paying 25€ for brunch and a small coffee and only realised I had been overcharged when I had left town.
Thankfully there's another brunch across the plaza; they might be...
Read moreMy visit to Alex Aachen was an incredibly disappointing experience. The food quality was far from satisfactory. Not only was the taste underwhelming, but it also left me with a severe stomach ache afterward. This alone was enough to ruin my entire dining experience.
The service was equally subpar. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout my time there. It was challenging to get their attention, and even when I did, they appeared reluctant to assist. Such lackluster service only added to the overall dissatisfaction I felt.
On top of all these problems, the prices at Alex Aachen were exorbitant. Considering the unappetizing food and lack of quality service, I cannot comprehend how they justify their high prices. It felt like an absolute rip-off.
Based on my encounter, I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant. The combination of mediocre food, stomach aches, poor service, and inflated prices made for an unpleasant and regrettable dining experience. Save your time, money, and stomach by looking elsewhere for a...
