Mille Miglia Augsburg — Restaurant in Augsburg

First of all it's on the Maximilliansraße, which is pretty much tourist central. Second of all it's basically a glorified pizzeria, there were only four entrees that were not pizza, whereas there were over 30 pizzas in three separate (!) pizza sections on the menu (needless to say, the menu was really confusing). Third, the wine and cocktail list is bigger than the food menu, with big fancy crystal glassware. And finally, it's expensive, over $ 15 USD for a plate sized personal pizza. I went with business colleagues. We got a mixed antipasto which arrived on a three tiered tray. Presentation was over the top for the contents, which were just average. Vitello tonnato more mayo than veal. After I got the seafood misto entree, which was not fresh, I was burping stale fried seafood for a couple hours afterwards. Eeiuw ! Of course I live at the Shore, so I am spoiled by good calamari pretty much all the time. The dining rooms look like they were cobbled together from a series of buildings, which is not unusual in an altstadt restaurant in Germany. The decor was a little busy (race car theme, surprise, surprise) and not modern. At night time it was a little dark due to LED mood lighting. The restaurant struck me as not especially clean, looking at the floors. It's a little sad to me that this is supposed to be the best Italian restaurant in Augsburg when the non-pizza menu choices are so limited. I would have liked to rate it higher, but when the food is not fresh that's a big problem for me. I'm probably spoiled by all the excellent Italian food in NYC, Philly, and down the Shore, but this would not be a place that I would hurry back to. I actually got better and more authentic Italian food on the same trip at a small neighborhood trattoria in Munich, so I know there is better Italian to be...

What a scam! After reading all the positive reviews we decided to give it a try...and were left incredibly disappointed. This is one of those places where they pretend to do "typical" and "authentic" italian food, while charging an exaggerated amount of money for every single dish. They may be able to fool many people, making them think this is actual italian pinsa because they don't know better, but trust me, an italian, that this is NOT pinsa. This is a DISGRACE to italian culinary. The italian workers here should be ashamed. If the pizzaiolo is italian, his nonna definitely didn't teach him well. The service is arrogant and (only positive thing here) the atmosphere is great. We always check the menus online, and when we came here we were greeted by a totally different menu (!!!) filled mostly with expensive pasta and meat dishes and only one page of pinsa (maybe 6 types?). Since we came here for the pinsa we asked if they could prepare us the types we saw online, but the incredibly sympathetic staff told us that quote "the online menu is super outdated" and that they only serve what is on the menu in the restaurant. And this is where things start getting worse. The pinsa is ready. Only it's not a pinsa, it's some fake flat dough with cheap and tasteless mozzarella and sour burrata (who knows if it was even fresh...). The prosciutto was quite tasteless as well (defined NOT a San Daniele) and the prices just didn't make things better. The only positive thing on the pinsa was the big amount of basilico. That's it. Do NOT come here unless you want...

Leider hat uns das Mille Miglia bei unserem letzten Besuch so gar nicht mehr überzeugen können. Wir haben hier früher öfter mal Pizza bestellt und waren auch 2-3 mal vorort essen und waren immer sehr zufrieden, die Pizza war geschmacklich hervorragend. Da die Pizza jedoch seit geraumer Zeit von der Karte gestrichen worden ist (jetzt gibt es nur noch Pinsa), waren wir seitdem nicht mehr hier und dachten uns, dass wir es mal wieder probieren sollten.

Erstmal vorweg die positiven Dinge: Ambiente ist nach wie vor sehr stilvoll und gemütlich und selbst an den Hochtischen lässt es sich sehr bequem sitzen. Auch der Service war sehr schnell und aufmerksam.

Es war hier schon immer so, dass es für Abholer und zum Liefern eine komplett andere - und auch deutlich größere - Karte mit anderen Preisen gibt.

Wir hatten 5x Pinsa, 1x Pasta Carbonara und ein Tiramisu. Leider ist die Auswahl der Pinsas auf der Karte im Restaurant extrem eingeschränkt. Zum Bestellen und Abholen finden sich hier gut 15 Pinsa mehr als vorort. Die günstigste Pinsa auf der kleinen Karte ‚Sophia Loren‘ schlägt hier mit 15,50€ zu Buche, die teuerste der 5 oder 6 auswählbaren ist schon bei über 20€. Wir hatten vier mal die Rubacuori und einmal die Sophia Loren. Die letztere kann man leider geschmacklich nur als langweilig bezeichnen und an mehreren Stellen war sie unten am Boden etwas verbrannt bzw. klebte dort verbranntes Semola oder Mehl. Die Rubacuoris waren geschmacklich besser und interessanter, aber auch hier war der Konsens nur ein ‚in Ordnung/gut‘ - alles in allem geschmacklich deutlich schwächer als die Pizzen die es früher gab. Die Pasta war von der Bewertung her nur ein geschmackliches OK, genauso wie das Tiramisu. Dessen Preis ist mit 10,50€ unserer Meinung nach extrem hoch angesetzt. Zum Bestellen liegt das Tiramisu bei 7€, zum Abholen bei 6€ - Was hier den enormen Preisunterschied rechtfertigt ist mir unklar. Allgemein sind die Dessert-Preise sehr hoch. Das Tiramisu ist hier noch das günstigste, alle restlichen Desserts liegen bei 2-3€ mehr.

Wir haben wirklich kein Problem mit etwas höheren Preisen, wenn es denn geschmacklich überzeugt. Leider fanden wir persönlich das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht angemessen und waren geschmacklich wirklich enttäuscht im Vergleich zu früher.

Deswegen sind hier von meiner Seite leider nur noch 3 Sterne drin - wo ich früher eher 4-5...
