Hugo & Notte — Restaurant in Berlin

The restaurant is located at the basement of French Cathedral.

We went for a weekend lunch and it was easy to grab a table for two without reservation. For food we tried :

Onion soup : did not like it

Duroc pork with vegetables and Duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings : We liked both the main courses

Creme brulee : portion size was a joke for the price. I never has a smaller bowl of creme brulee here in europe , specially when priced like a full sized dessert.

I wanted my main dish without alcohol , to which only salmon and vegetarian dishes were available, so definitely the menu lacks variation and all the meat dishes from Coq au vin to duroc pock , beef fillet and the duck were served with the same brown sauce cooked with the wine. And definitely not customizable.

The service was very attentive , we were served complimenatary bread with a dip with the drinks, but took more than 40 minutes to serve the food. Also there was a billing mistake later. However the staff was nice and friendly and quickly...

A lovely restaurant with good service, however, I was quite disappointed with the food. I always thought you can’t go wrong with French cooking, but, apparently you can. We had the quiche and the Coq Au cider. The quiche did not have any egg in it only mushrooms. OK, maybe that’s how it’s made, but that’s not what I was expecting. And the coq au cider tasted like hoisin sauce. We were literally the only people in the restaurant for a while, but the four waitresses were just scrolling on Instagram instead of really helping us understand the menu. I haven’t eaten in many places in Germany yet, and I understand that Cooking is different in every country, but I was not impressed...

Das Essen war sehr gut.

Der Service freundlich, aber nicht sehr professionell:

Im Restaurant waren an einem frühen Samstagabend nur zwei Tische belegt (insgesamt 4 Gäste!). Vielleicht hat das Personal deshalb lauthals am Tresen Privatgespräche geführt?

Niemand begrüsst die Gäste und bringt sie zum Tisch, trotz Herrscharen an Personal. Wir hatten reserviert, die lapidare Antwort des Mitarbeiters am Eingang war: "Drinne oder draussen? Wo Sie wollen!" Das ist doch keine angemessene Begrüssung! Schon gar nicht in der Preisklasse!

Keine Frage nach Getränkewunsch, als die Karte gebracht wurde.

Alles hat ziemlich lange gedauert, obwohl es so leer war.

Das Mobiliar ist eine Katastrophe. Man sitzt teilweise auf Kirchenbänken, hart und unbequem. Es schallt und wenn es voll ist, ist es wahrscheinlich sehr laut. Keine Kerzen, keine Blumen, kein einziges Bild...

Schönes Beispiel, was passiert, wenn Leute, die nicht wirklich Gastronomen sind, ein Restaurant führen. Es fehlt an Herzblut (das ist dort nur in der Küche vorhanden!) und Anspruch. Der Fokus der Betreiber liegt auf Veranstaltungen, Technik, Caterings... alles schön, aber ein richtig gutes Restaurant funktioniert nicht, wenn die Betreiber auf 1.000 Hochzeiten tanzen. Man merkt als Gast doch recht schnell, ob ein "Chef" vor Ort ist oder nicht.

Schade. Als es noch das "Refugium" war, war es gediegen und bequem. Der Service war um Klassen besser und die Küche mindestens genauso gut. Man konnte dort herrlich "versacken", fühlte sich stets willkommen. Diesmal haben wir sogar auf's Dessert verzichtet, es ist einfach kein Ort, an dem man sich länger als nötig aufhalten möchte.
