MAREDO Beef & Beer Gendarmenmarkt — Restaurant in Berlin

We were here on 22 June for lunch. The original waiter was very friendly. Unfortunately the steaks we ordered were of poor quality. One was so full of sinew that only half could be eaten. To any decent chef it must have been obvious before cooking the meat. We tried to inform the waiting staff but none were around. Once a waitress eventually came (middle aged blonde lady), instead of apologising she stated we should have told them earlier. Upon informing her we indeed tried to, she stated we should have spoken to the chef. Unbelievable! She honestly expected the customers to speak directly to the kitchen to sort out the poor food. Not sure what she sees as her role in the restaurant. Unfortunately this experience speaks volumes about the service quality of Maredo, but also of staffing quality in the area. The original waitor (younger man) eventually returned and it was apparent that he was better skilled in customer service than his older colleague. He apologised and offered a small discount, but in honestly, they shouldn't have charged for the steak. The rest of the food was also fairly sub-standard - tiny dried out portion of coleslaw for a hefty price. Pre-prepared chips. You can find much better privately owned steak houses than chains such as Maredo - better food and infinitely...

Great experience. Went with friends & family and had rib-eye steak which was amazingly on point, and I had on the side cooked vegetables and pepper sauce. The latter left me particularly speechless and I highly recommend it. I also thought the portions were very fair.

In addition to that, there's plenty of space and tables, which meant my group and I had privacy and could laugh out loud and tell our jokes without disturbing the person next to you. There were big tables so that you could be in a group, but there were also more intimate places in case you're on a date. Plus - and this is a big plus - it doesn't have that sharp white light that most restaurants have. This may seem like a useless detail but lighting in a restaurant is very important. The lights were deemed enough that it felt like a casual and relaxed environment, but also light enough so that you could eat your food and not forget you're in a restaurant.

An awesome experience! I had my first date with my boyfriend here and it was so special, the waiting time was super short (Tuesday evening) and we got a cosy corner at the back of the restaurant, which by the end of the evening was super empty.

Our waiter was Thien, a really lovely guy who gave us brilliant recommendations without us even asking! He is also a great salesman, recommending we get a whole bottle of wine, which was the right decision in the end.

I particularly like how he was in a good mood and cared about our wishes. This always makes a big difference to the overall experience. Everything felt super familiar, like old friends 🤩

The steak was brilliant, the prawn starter was incredible too, and I will definitely be coming back. This is one of the nicer Maredo steak restaurants, as there is a nicer ambience. The music in the restaurant was also great; with soft pop and jazz. All in all, a great...
