Café Marlene is a charming spot nestled in the heart of the bustling Kastanien Alle. The interior is cute and charming creating a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy their diverse menu of coffee specialties, cakes, and cocktails. While the breakfast options are plentiful, the lunch menu could benefit from a wider selection. The outdoor terrace is perfect for soaking up the Berlin sun.
The cakes are absolute showstoppers—both visually appealing and deliciously satisfying. Unfortunately, the cocktail-making skills of the staff seemed inconsistent. Our drinks were quite strong, suggesting a lack of experience in mixology. However, the prices are reasonable, making it an affordable option for a casual outing. The service, while typical for the Prenzlauer Berg, could be a bit friendlier at times. A touch of warmth would elevate the overall experience.
I would definitely recommend adding espresso martinis to the menu, as they have all the necessary ingredients. Despite the minor service hiccups, Café Marlene is a delightful spot for a coffee and cake, and I would return for another taste of their...
Read moreLooked lovely from the outside but was really disappointed. Took 30-40 minutes for them to take our order, took another 20 minutes for drinks to appear and another 10 for only two of the three dishes to come out, they forgot the bread with one of them and never explained why the third dish didn't come out. Eventually we asked where the third dish was and the server just said we need more time but didn't say anything else or apologise. Then after another 10 minutes another server asked us what we were waiting for and we explained we were missing one dish and she then asked why we didn't tell anyone in an annoyed tone, again no apology. After some talking in German they then said ok we ordered it but by then we'd finished our food so we cancelled it. She then said ok and walked away and didn't apologise. Very...
Read moreBeautiful atmosphere, colorful flowers everywhere and romantic decoration inside. They have great wifi and and power outlets so I could spend a few hours in the morning getting some work done in a very mellow and quaint vibe. You don’t get this a lot in Berlin!
Sadly, we were not very happy with our coffees. I had a flat white and it was a very large cup full of milk and a bit of espresso, so essentially a latte macchiato. Appreciate the big portion, but would have preferred to have a real flat white. My friend ordered a cortado and got a very strange cup of milk foam with an espresso shot. On top of that it appeared that our server was not having the best of days, nor seemed very motivated. Hence my 3 star rating.
If the coffees improved this would be the best kind cafe in...
