I have passed by this place many times as probably many of you have in this busy crossing. I never stepped in before because from the outside, I just saw loafs of bread and assumed it was an overly expensive, over-hyped bread place. Yesterday as I turned the corner, I noticed some tables and on them what looked like delicious cinnamon rolls! Cinnamon rolls, I told myself, is exactly what I need for my homesick self. The line was out the door, it seem promising. But as we entered, we started noticing all the signs and symbols of yet another, expensive super pretentious hipstery place. I was very disappointed and a bit annoyed, as I was really hoping for a good homey cinnamon roll. The roll itself was far from flavorful and the expensive Chai Latte was completely cold (I asked for it to be warm) and also quite bland. A note on hygiene, for all the business they do and the money they make, they could at least check the restroom once in a while and make sure there is handsoap. Counterintuitively, what I am learning in Berlin is that the longer the lines, the better the reviews, the louder the hype... the best is to stay away. Side note: I am not affiliated at all, but as a true cinnamon roll lover I must tell you...if you ever go to Pismo Beach California, do yourself a huge favor and get one at Old West Cinnamon Rolls. You will be dreaming about them...
Read moreI absolutely love the raspberry white chocolate Cinnabons from this location. We also tried the chocolate and walnut cinnamon rolls at another location of the same branch. While they were both good, the white chocolate raspberry is definitely my favorite. It had the perfect consistency! It was perfectly soft, with a warm, tender interior and a satisfying slight outer crunch. The raspberry jam inside was slightly warm, which added to the overall experience.
On the other hand, the carrot cake didn’t quite meet expectations—it felt more like a salad. It was dry and ashy, with too many toppings. The frosting was decent but perhaps a bit too heavy on the lemon, though I can’t recall exactly, as I wasn’t enjoying it much and frankly we didn’t even finish eating it.
The walnut cinnamon roll was outstanding, and the chocolate one was okay. We took these home and reheated them in the air fryer with a scoop of ice cream, which may have enhanced the experience. Additionally, the coffee was very nice, pairing perfectly...
Read moreMy review is about die Schnecke. I love the big variety and taste, my personal favorite being Schokschnecke, it reminds me of my childhood, when my grandmother was baking them. I buy it almost every day since the place opened, 2-3 pieces/day. Unfortunately I noticed few inconsistencies, which if they won’t be addressed I will stop coming here: The service is chaotic. The staff are overwhelmed with the volume of people that come in to buy. The size of die Schnecke. Many times I haven’t been served an entire piece. For some reason the ones that serve sometimes will cut the snail smaller. The filling. If I’m buying a Schockoschnecke I expect chocolate inside. It happened again and again to get an almost plain snail with few drops of melted chocolate on top and nothing in between the layers. But when it’s done right, it is heavenly good.
I will buy more in the next few weeks. If nothing changes, I will go back to my old organic bakery, where I get consistency in service and...
