If you are looking for magnificent food and wonderful service make your way here.
It was a random choice for my partner and me on our first (of three) days in Berlin. We came back for the rest of two days without any doubts.
When you step in you can straight feel the charming warm vibes of this place. Atmosphere is great.
When it comes up to the food it’s just wow. You can’t say “good”, “excellent”, “outstanding”.. it’s much better than all of these together. Massive compliments to the chefs. The only one I can blame them: a few more kilos I’ve got in those few days))) never could think I can eat in full that kind of enormous portions))
The staff. It’s everything that you want to get from the service staff in hospitality. Trust me I’ve been in that for the last 23 years. I wish to have that kind of a team at my place. Very welcoming, friendly, attentive and highly professional. No wasted motion, which allows them to interact with the guests. Outstanding to be served like that (and melts the heart of the restaurateur).
But I highly wish to give special thanks to those people: Willi, Grit and especially Torsten (widely known as Torte 😉).
Willi was serving us on the first evening and there was one of the best attitudes and service I’ve ever seen. Marvelous combination of being around when needed but giving us our space and privacy. Smiling, kind, helping and at the same time unobtrusive. Absolutely great, thank you Willi!
Grit was looking after us for the next two days. We felt as if we were coming back to the place where we are always welcomed and waited. Truly feeling of warming hugs. Thank you Grit! It was a pleasure that you were serving us))
And we step to Torte. Next day was my partner’s anniversary and Torte promised to arrange a booking and cake surprise on my request. I didn’t leave any details like contact number or time of arrival. But when we came the very nice table was reserved for us. The cake was served with bengal sparklers without any reminders not only by Torte but other team members. And as a professional I appreciate that the cutlery was given right after the cake presentation. Very quick but not too early to give away a surprise. And what about the Happy Birthday song being put on the playlist right on serving the cake? Smashing brilliant, Torte! You’ve done that day absolutely fabulous for both of us.
And wow! the next day dear Torte caught a minute (on a busy Friday night) to give us a hint about the meaning of live singing songs from German to English. Smashing attitude!
Dear managers and owners, you have a dream team. Appreciate them! Congratulations for your job building this and please show your appreciation to Torsten, Willi and Grit in something more than words as they fully deserve this by making us come back and remember that wonderful experience by their attitude and way of work.
All best wishes and great thanks to all other team members who were not mentioned here by their names but were with us (amazing chefs and smashing FOH team) 😘 P.S. bitter compliment bottles...
Read moreVery rude waiters I came with three other girls and arrived at the restaurant when it wasn't busy at all. We were waiting at the entrance and had several times eye-contact with all the waiters. We were then told very rudely by the bartender to sit 'everywhere'.
Okay, they may be 'busy'. So we sat down, then there were people coming in the restaurant. But this time, the waiter spotted them very easily and got several menus and led them to their table. We felt a little bit upset but still, we thought that they may just not speak English very well so said 'everywhere' to us.
Then we said 'excuse me' to one waiter passing next to our table. He ignored us. The other waiter came to us saying 'Hey here is Germany, not Asia, don't panic, we will bring the menus.' Okay, firstly, we were not panic, but when you saw someone being led to their table and with the menu, I supposed you will ask why we, came before them, did not have the same service. Secondly, when you make such a distinguishable attitude towards German and non-German, why don't you just put a sign saying 'Asian not welcome' so we will definitely not go in at all. Thirdly, what if we are actually born in German but you judged people just by their appearance that they are definitely from Asia, I supposed those Germany-born Asian are pretty upset by what you did.
However, we still wanted to order even though we were a little bit unhappy. The very racist waiter finally brought us the menus but also said 'Here you are, we are not blind'. We were furious, how rude and unprofessional he is!!! How could you ever said that when we really didn't do any offensive things to anyone at all! We then left the restaurant, very very very upset.
I don't know what might be the rude waiters' experience with tourists before but the act of generalising everyone just the same is so bad and unacceptable. This restaurant, whether it will be a great choice for everybody else. For me, it has a very bad reputation of serving good food to everyone just want to eat and relax, it is definitely not just there for making money. If you have children, do you really want them to learn such discriminative act towards...

We visited this place the second time, hopping the attitude might improve from our 1st experience. It turns out to be a nightmare.
We made reservation for 5 people at 19pm, arrived on time, and were directed to our booked table. The waitress kept us waiting for 45 to 50 min without even ordering drinks, while the other guests in the same room (some came even way later than us) got served by her. When she eventually came, my wife politely stated the fact in fluent German (She lived in Germany for almost a decade). The waitress replied to her that we should get out of this restaurant if we don't feel respected, and refused to take our food orders.
The wife had to find the restaurant manager to order. When she came back, she told us that the waitress kept insulting us in German in front of other customers, and she felt humiliated. We then decided to leave because the waitress's behavior made us feel very uncomfortable. As we leave, another waitress asked about the cause, and said: Stay, I'll servce you instead. And we asked to change a table. While we walked to the other table, the waitress who was suppose to serve us at the beginning passed by, stepped on my wife's foot and said sorry eventhough she doesn't look like she is sorry. When dinner was served at last, the same waitress came and mumbled in German again something like we can be even friendly now.
Towards the end, the food was good, and the other waitress and the waiter (name tag Frank) offered decent service. So we gave tips as we normally would. However, here is my honest advice: Don't go to this restaurant just because it's famous. Don't encourage their awful attitude. Some of them don't seem to care or welcome Asian customers. There are still lots of alternatives in Berlin. As the waitress said, we don't have to stay if we think their service sucks, we can go to another restaurant. And yes, she is right, we will go to another restaurant and never visit this...
