Sumak — Restaurant in Berlin

I live in this neighborhood, and although I never see anyone eating here, my mom is visiting me, so we decided to stop in for some food. We each ordered chicken with vegetables and rice on the side. Both of our pieces of chicken were completely 100% RAW and inedible. The rice was hard and seemed old. We went back inside and asked kindly to get different pieces of chicken because the ones we had gotten were raw, so the woman working behind the counter gave us two more pieces... which again were RAW. By the end of our meal we were hungrier than before and showed them our chicken and kindly asked to have our money back (just for the chicken, not the whole meal). A very rude man working there said no and talked down to us. I will never return and advise everyone not to waste their time and money... and additionally not to put their health at risk by eating raw meat!! By the way, we realized later that the 7 euro price was supposed to include tea, salad, bread... none of which were offered. A terrible...

We’ve been here before, I’m surprised I haven’t left a review before. We really like(d) the menemen here - today I wasn’t as keen on it, not sure why. I feel like I couldn’t identify the eggs in it. They always give you bread. The service is usually good but today we waited about 50 min for our food. They did update us twice and gave us two muffins on the house which perked me up. They used to have homemade Ayran, I think, but now it was the a commercial one that was still fine. I have always thought their orange juice is weird and not sure how to explain it. It’s like it’s blended. I had given the food 4 stars and the service 3 but as I write this, I realize that they did try to be friendly and make it up to us and were jokingly friendly when we walked past again an hour later. A complete disaster. The service was absolutely horrendous. We waited for nearly an hour before we could even place our order, despite the place not being particularly busy. The staff seemed completely disinterested and made no effort to attend to us. We had to constantly get up and seek out someone to help us, which is ridiculous when you’re paying to dine out.

To make matters worse, we were overcharged for a teapot that we didn’t even finish because they took it away full without our consent. When we brought this up, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. I will definitely not be returning, and I’d advise others to avoid this...
