It pains me to write this review of what used to be my favorite ramen in town.
The place has changed significantly over the last year or so. Possibly under a new management, simplifying the menu from what it used to be, moving away from authenticity to more of a "crowd pleaser" territory of saltier broths. While the noodles and many toppings such as teriyaki chicken or fried chicken (Nanban) haven't changed in their essentials, the broth significantly has. The broth isn't what it used to be, no matter what ramen you get. This is possibly because of the move to strictly chicken based cooking for a more inclusive customer appeal. The broth lacks body and depth and is over compensated by salt. (I can't believe I'm writing this about Takumi Neun 😢)
Same goes for all the vegan options. It once used to be the kind of vegan ramen with no compromise on flavor but they've dropped the ball on this one.
Predictability used to be the Hallmark of Takumi, never a disappointing experience (I've dined here 50+ times) but lately the broth tastes different every time I try it.
Takumi Neun has been dethroned by its own doing. There's now room at the top when it comes ramen...
Read moreDo NOT order Shio. Its soup is tasteless like water. Even though "Shio" means "Salt" in Japanese, I didn't taste anything in the supposed salted soup.
I know it is hard to get chicken bones for brooth in Germany, that's why not many ramen places offer Shio Ramen. I suggest you guys simply delete Shio from your menu.
The Tempura is the best part, but half of it was in the soup, it is better served separately.
The noodle is chewy, nice. Marinating sauce is great - that mean Chicken and bamboo shoots are fine.
Aji-Tamago is ok but in my opinion overcooked for 20-30 seconds, however I guess Germans won't like their eggs too rare.
And they don't offer Cha-su, big no no if you charge me that much.
Conclusion: I would go to Cocolo if I want a ramen. Although Cocolo's quality is getting worse, it is still cheaper than this store.
I expect better when I pay over 10 Euro for ramen. I like the store, it's stylish and hippy, but I am sorry that I will not come again.
P.S. I didn't try the other flavours, I guess it would be slightly better than Shio. But over 10 Euro for such thing… No. And check out those 1-3 stars comments, they are right and you should take...
