Yard — Restaurant in Berlin

Had the oddest, terrible experience. Was chatting with a woman at the bar, arranging a game of pool, when as I was organising it.... the barman gave the table to another group who had just walked in. I suggested an us vs them match -. but... it turns out the woman's husband was the barman, so he decided he was going to play instead.

Weird. I'm a paying customer, and the barman instead... decides fun is for the staff not the patrons. But OK, whatever.

The bar was left unattended. I had been charging my phone behind the bar, so I walked over and got it. The barman comes charging back in "You can't be in here, you might steal all the money." I'm like, steady on, I'm very sorry I've upset you. Of course I am not stealing money. I'm in full view of at least 10 people. I am just getting my phone.

He made a big show of demonstrating how the cash register can be easily opened and emptied. Um OK.. Well done, so your cash register is not secure and you left it unattended. How was I to know about this huge problem, and that it meant I could not get my phone? How is me getting my phone the issue here, rather than you leaving the bar to play pool, leaving the cash unattended?

I tried to calm him down, spoke politely and quietly but he was clearly spooked that someone could have stolen the money which he'd left unattended whilst he played instead of working. I had to leave. I'm like ok. I went back to my table, advised my group we had to go, explained why. We proceeded to finish our drinks which were almost empty and prepared to leave. Same irate barman, came and said everyone had to leave NOW, we could not finish our drinks. I told him(less quietly now to be sure)...um. I've done nothing wrong and I'm going to finish my drink before I go. I did. We left.

Dear Mr angry barman.

If you are so worried about people stealing your money I recommend a lockable cash register.

When you are working at a bar, perhaps stay at the bar, mind your money box, sell the drinks, instead of playing pool so the paying customers cant, and can't get a drink either.

If you don't do this, and you leave the bar and the cash unattended - don't wet your pants with fear as to what might have happened and take it out on innocent bystanders who did nothing wrong.

We are locals, drinkers, and spenders, and would...

Nice Bar with cheap price, just don't go as tourist. The staff is not too kindly with tourists and non german speakers. And expecially we had a really bad experience while playing pool, one guy come to us and told us to let him play because he is from Berlin and it's not correct that he has to wait for tourists, he also said that if we didn't let them play they would fight us. Hate...

Really unfriendly staff. From the moment we arrived the staff treated us so bad - especially the waitress.
