ZOLA - East Side – Friedrichshain — Restaurant in Berlin

We were really looking forward to pizza. We have therefore looked up the best pizza shops in Berlin. A true website told us that ZOLA should not be missing from your tour in Berlin, and that it is one of the better pizza places. Well unfortunately I have to contradict this website. This really wasn't worth it and I dare say there really are much better pizza places in Berlin than this one.

If you do decide to eat here, here are some tips. Before you go take cash with me you can only pay with cash. When you get there, choose a table before you order in line. Remember your table number because if you indicate it they will deliver your pizza to the right table. And keep an eye out if you see them walking around with the pizzas you ordered.

I'll start my regular round of comments below.

The store itself is a fun concept and has a very nice location. They are a few containers stacked on top of each other. An open kitchen and grab your own beer from the fridge. Some wooden beer benches and some umbrellas on the waterfront. A nice place to sit.

The staff was nice during the order. Now we didn't have a table number and we had to pass it on if we had a table number. That's what I did then. Afterwards it went wrong and we received our pizza (more than 20 minutes outside the oven). We then asked if it could be put in the oven for a while to warm up. We got a hard no there. And then the clerk acted like this was just our own fault. While we had indicated everything as the concept was intended.

Due to this situation, the pizza itself was completely cold and therefore really unedible. We did eat it, but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy it. It was very unfortunate that we were not able to warm up the pizza a bit.

Another positive point, the music. The music was at a good volume in the store. The songs that were played were super cool. Future jazz/ blues bit of Spanish music. They got this right.

All in all. We have a bad experience here (and our story came across several people when we were there) but a nice place to come, drink beer and sit...

If you like poor hygiene and a hair in your pizza then, Zola am Spree is the way to go.

There was a hair on my pizza and asked for my money back from the pizza. I got this back with an angry look and a non-friendly attitude. She wanted to make a new one. But I would rather have my money back because I noticed that - The man who makes the pizzas, did not used a hairnet, or gloves for making the pizza's , / he also looked very Tired and F'up - as if he just came out of a club. I also found the staff not dealing good with hygiene in this carona time. - They had no mouth masks, they let everyone in with no 2 meters away. This could have been avoided if they made the effort to go to the tables and take the order. - Payment with a debit card was also not possible. - WC was also not clean. .......................... Wenn Sie Pizza Carona mögen, sollten Sie unbedingt nach Zola Am gehen.

Wenn Sie schlechte Hygiene und eine Haar im Pizza mögen, ist Zola am Spree der richtige Weg.

Auf meiner Pizza war ein Haar und ich bat um mein Geld von der Pizza zurück. Ich bekam das mit einem wütenden Blick und einer unfreundlichen Einstellung zurück. Sie wollte eine neue machen. Aber ich hätte lieber mein Geld zurück, weil mir das aufgefallen ist - Der Mann, der die Pizzen macht, kein Haarnetz, keine und keine Handschuhe / er sah auch sehr ungepflegt aus, als wäre er gerade aus einem Club gekommen ist. Ich fand auch das Personal, das sich in dieser Zeit nicht mit Hygiene befasste. - Sie hatten keine Mundmasken, sie ließen alle Leuten ohne 2 Meter Entfernung herein. Dies hätte vermieden werden können, wenn sie sich die Mühe gemacht hätten, an die Tische zu gehen und die Bestellung entgegenzunehmen. - Eine Zahlung mit einer Debitkarte war ebenfalls nicht möglich. - WC war auch...

One of the servers gave me the wrong change. I gave 20 € for a 3 € sparkling water. She gave me 7 instead of 17. This was on Sat 3rd of July 2021. I was on the phone so I didnt notice until later. That is partially on me for thinking people do their job right, right? Next day, Sunday, 4th of July, I went back to mention this. Two italian girls who apparently were already screwing up delivery orders, told me they could not do anything about it while looking at internet posts on their phones while on the job. Yes, can't do much about it given that this is another day. But the 10 extra euros could have been found out had someone checked the previous night close up. THEY WERE NOT BUSY. They were just on their phones while screwing up orders. This place needs to do better hiring. Awful. Please, get ur own beer to enjoy yourself by the Spree. Don't come here.
