Tasty Treats at the Chocolate Museum Café This is exactly what you’d expect from a chocolate museum café—delicious chocolate and sweet treats! We had Irish coffees that were absolutely delicious (and gone way too fast). One feature I appreciated was their multilingual website and English-translated menus, which made ordering easy. We tried the crêpe banane, which was perfectly balanced—the right amount of crepe, bananas, and crème. We also had the soufflé noisette, which was rich and tasty, though it could’ve used something like bananas to break up the richness between bites (and that’s coming from a die-hard chocolate lover!). The food options lean more toward snacks and desserts rather than full meals, so it’s a great place for a mid-day treat or coffee break. There was plenty of seating, and while the staff was nice, our waiter’s English wasn’t the best—which wasn’t a big issue, just something to note. Like many places in Europe, cash is ideal, but they do accept cards. The atmosphere wasn’t particularly cozy, so if you’re looking for a warm, intimate setting, this might not be the place. That said, in warmer weather, the outdoor seating would offer fantastic views of the Rhine. Only a few indoor seats provide that view, so grab one if you can!

I’ve visited this cafe in Cologne before and it seems to be the same story once again. When you walk in, you have to pretty much find your own table which can be quite a task especially at busy times and on weekends. As soon as a table is free next to the windows, people scramble and move from their current table to a free table in order to have a better view. The poor waiters and then left confused as to where they need to deliver the food so overall their seating system isn’t the best. In terms of the food and drinks, it’s everything you expect from a chocolate cafe. The warm creamy hot chocolate is surely a treat and tastes dreamy. The chocolate fondant is also very nice and rich and goes so well with ice cream and pecan nuts. Overall would’ve been a much better experience if they had some sort of organisation and customer hosting.

My experience could have definitely been better than it was, but I know I probably didn't choose the best time to come here. The café is likely to be crowded in the afternoon and weekends due to the museum visits. The food was nice, I tried a Trinkschokolade, which was really good, and a slice of Chocolate Fondant Torte, quite bitter I should say but great and rich for dark chocolate lovers. About the staff I hope I just happened in a day-no because each of them I encountered was either stressed, looked tired and unwilling, agitated and rigid. I could have enjoyed my time there, especially after such a pleasant visit to the museum, if only I felt more welcome and less detachment. Overall great, suggested if you want to taste a Lindt hot chocolate with cream and a chocolate bite.

Really poor experience - we arrived and were told to sit anywhere and a waiter would be with us shortly. We were patient, but after about 20 minutes we asked one of the waiters if we could order (in German). They said they weren’t our waiter, but they’d send our waiter over. After another 25 minutes we finally left. This was after making eye contact with another two waiters and asking if we could order (both in English in German) and either being waved off or ignored. A total of 45 minutes sitting and no one could take our order. If they really couldn’t handle more people they should’ve told us that there was a wait and not sat us, and we would’ve understood and perhaps tried to visit a different time. Not to mention only half the tables were available due to COVID, and of the half available maybe 60% of those were filled. There were plenty of waiters available, and honestly everyone but one person we interacted with was rude or seemed annoyed. I try to be very understanding to waiters, I know it’s a hard job, but this was really not okay. Over 45 minutes for nothing. I’ve lived in Germany for two years and this was probably the worst encounter I’ve had with customer service...

We were looking forward to a nice treat after our visit to the Chocolate museum in Cologne, but we were really disappointed. The food itself is not bad, but for the price, you would expect the cakes to be freshly baked and not just warmed up. My boyfriend is a university-certified baker and was especially disappointed by the foods quality, as he was looking forward to getting some inspiration for his job. The service however was even worse. We had to wait for 20 minutes just to be served, the tables weren’t clean and the waiter seemed very stressed and rude. We ordered a Grand Marnier Hot Chocolate that was just not drinkable because of the absurdly high alcohol content and the server refused to help or find a solution. I was also told to stop playing with the sugar shaker and to keep the table clean - all things that are obvious, and that a friendly, normal guest like I consider myself would do. I certainly felt like I was treated like a child that was being scolded at. This is not what I imagined my Chocolate museum experience to be like and I felt like I wasted my money. Do yourself a favor and eat...
