L'Osteria Köln Zollhafen — Restaurant in Cologne

We ate here because it was close to our hotel. It had a very family friendly atmosphere and was very busy on a Saturday night. There was no one at the host stand to greet us when we arrived. My partner went to ask a staff member if we could sit down and this was the start of very unpleasant service. We were given a nice table with a lovely view of the river. The server had a very dismissive and aggressive attitude with us throughout the night. We ordered pasta and pizza, drinks, and dessert. The pasta was excellent. The pizza was average but large. Dessert was basic. Even though we ordered other drinks, the server would not bring us any water for the table, which may be cultural but was also very strange for us. It took a very long time to get service and every time we interacted with the server it felt like we were a major inconvenience. When we finally took the bill, the server told us that he could not make any change for our money. We said okay we will find change and were searching for it and he got upset and yelled at us that he was just asking us for simple change. We said that was exactly what we were doing--looking for change and he then told us not to bother and he would find the correct change for us. Although we enjoyed the food and the general ambiance of the place, the service experience left us with a bad taste and that is what we remember most...

I must confess. I am addicted to pizza and I'm very spoiled with good quality. I have spent a few days here in Köln at a hotel around 100 meters from L'Osteria. Since this is my last evening before I return to Sweden i walked over to try it out. I liked the atmosphere and chose to sit inside. The waiter was really nice and easy to communicate with. I chose a pizza with 4 different kinds of cheese and didn't know what to expect. It was fantastic. I usually just eat 1/2 pizza and thats enough for me. I ate almost the entire pizza. Not because I was that hungry. It was just so good. While I was waiting for the bill I did a quick calculation in my head. I must have eaten over a thousand pizzas in my life and this one was one of the 5 best ever. Sadly enough I'll return to Sweden tomorrow so I can't go back again tomorrow, but the next time I'll visit Köln I will be back. Thanks a lot for this...
