Pizzeria La Candeletta — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

I visited this restaurant for Sunday dinner with a friend who was visiting me from Japan. We took an outdoor seat, took a look at the menu for maybe 5 minutes, and then my friend tried to get an attention of a waiter who was about to clean another table a few meters away. Then the waiter suddenly got furious because he though my friend was trying to hurry him to our table. He started yelling some bad stuff about Japanese people from the other table, and he said we could leave if we want. Of course we decided to leave, and while we were quietly leaving he continued yelling at our back. He could have just said “one moment”, we were totally fine to wait for another minutes. I couldn’t find any other reason but the waiter is a racist. I am very sad that my friend had to experience this in Düsseldorf, when we were about to have a first dinner together after 2 years since...

I was in Dusseldorf for business with 3 coworkers. We stumbled upon this little gem, and enjoyed everything immensely. We shared the antipasto platter, and then had the tortellini dish, pasta with marinara, and 3 pizzas. I had a special request which they were so kind to do for me. I brought my own goat cheese since I cannot have cow cheese, and they made the best Margherita pizza for me. The crust was thin and crispy on the outside, but chewy on the inside. This is a family owned restaurant.Our server, Elisa, daughter of the owners (Gaetano and Silke) was absolutely fabulous. You can tell this wonderful family puts their heart and soul into the restaurant, service and the food. I went to Düsseldorf with my girlfriend, because we wanted to have a last dinner, before she left Germany for a couple of weeks. The whole city was full of people and we tried to find a place without that much, because of the current Corona situation. Well, all out of sudden we found a little and almost empty alley. Here we found this restaurant and it was a big surprise. The food we got was very good and the price (around 10€ each) was totally fine. We definitely had a very nice evening with the great atmosphere of the small alley and a warm summer night. I read something about a bad service and unfriendly employees in some of the other comments but I can't confirm that. When we were there they were very friendly. Absolutely a good place to have nice and not expensive dinner in the center...
