My review from 6 years ago: Love the Apple ring desert here. The waitresses are really friendly and fun. It's also in a cute little side street under the vines. It is cozy here.

My review from my last visit 08/2025

Well unfortunately things have changed. The food was ok, the Apfelküchle was still really delicious. The Kartoffelsalat was too salty and I told the waitress and she just apologized and still didn't do anything and I paid for it full price. She could have offered to give me French fries or whatever. But she just said something along the line of "oh well". Then the soup we ordered was big and we wanted to take it with us. They didn't have to go boxes for soups because they don't. Seriously what kind of answer is that you can't take it we don't carry to-go-boxes for soups. So basically I have to find a new place where I can eat my Apfelküchle. Also I have a feeling since this place automatically has a lot of customers (location, location!) they don't have to be that friendly or try their best at...

Found randomly on a cobblestone sidestreet amongst amazing little shops and other restaurants, and so glad my wife and I went. Can't really speak to everything there or even the inside - sat on the patio to people-watch - but three things immediately jump out at me. The location was great to relax and enjoy a late afternoon meal or just a drink. The menu - for us who only speak a little bit of German - was available in multiple languages (English, French, Italian). And the food... so damned tasty. I was really craving schnitzel when we went, and I had two fantastic pork cutlets (served my favourite way with lemon) with spätzle (which was good but not great); my wife had an ox meat roast with creamy horseradish sauce, potato and cranberry jam, and she said it was one of the best things she's ever eaten. The service was really nice but a tiny bit slow, but we were also there at an odd time and it was getting very busy as we were leaving, so I wouldn't blame them for that overall....

We tried to book earlier in the day but was told that no more bookings were being taken but should be fine to turn up later. Turned up later but no tables were available. They did however house us on a shared table. Which we didn’t mind although not sure the people already sat there had the same feeling….. The atmosphere was friendly and a busy place. The food and service was great. Didn’t have to wait too long.

I had the noodle and meat soup to start and the Schnitzel for a main course along with 2 Rothaus Pils.

We had to be off the table within an hour as the table was reserved.

Although it was a rushed dinner the service was good, food was great and beer outstanding.

Liked the look of the pudding but unfortunately didn’t have time to have dessert.

Hope one day to go back when more time was available but would recommend trying this...

The Oberlindenbrot we got served with our Bibbleskäs was very stale. When I complained about it at the end (as no one checked in on us during the whole lunch), the server said we should have informed her and she would have replaced it. The problem is, we never saw any servers after we got the food. I had beef in horseradish sauce, potatoes and cranberry sauce and it was OK, but quite bland. The Bibbleskäswas very very bland and paired with a stale bread is better avoided. They also forgot to bring one of our starters before the main dishes and just brought it with the rest of the food. And then after all that they asked for a tip. We said no. We won't be back.

We had an excellent lunch here. Service was prompt, and they spoke a little English so that helped us tremendously. The atmosphere was cozy. They had a couple tables open inside at 13:00 on a Saturday but all the outside seating was full. For our meal, we had two dishes: beef with horseradish cream sauce and smoked pork shoulder. The pork was very good, the beef was excellent. The cream sauce didn't seem too rich or thick, it had a nice bite of horseradish, and was slightly sweet from the cranberry sauce that came with it. That plus two beers was about 40€.

Visited Großer Meyerhof in May of 2025 for lunch - overall was a good experience! This was on a Monday and several other restaurants in the old city were closed. Ordered a beer and a rahmschnitzel both of which were good. The rahmschnitzel was a bit basic but I guess more or less what I expected. A good sized portion for lunch. Definitely a solid choice for some authentic German cuisine. For a Monday afternoon the restaurant was quite busy and the patio seating was entirely full.
