Decent Bavarian Hofbräu restaurant. The restaurant is extremely big, especially in the summer when the outdoor seating is available. The service is very good - friendly and professional. We visited during late lunch and the restaurant was not very busy. It took quite an effort to get the attention of the waiter, but he was very friendly. We tried Wiener Schnitzel and Weißwurst with HB beer. The food came very quickly but the Weißwurst was cold and hade a very unusual flavor, very different from what we are used to. The pretzel was not very fresh. The schnitzel was okay, but the veal was not very tender and the breading was very oily. The potatoe salad was average. If you want Preiselbeeren you have to pay extra. The location is good but we would recommend other, smaller Bavarian restaurants in Hamburg. This one is good for a beer or two but we will not come back for the food. We rated the restaurant three stars, one additional for the waiters, who...

Unacceptable Service Attitude, Customers Don't Owe You Anything

On July 8, 2024, at noon, I was dining outdoors, and we were served by a black-haired gentleman. When it was time to pay the bill, he explained the total cost and mentioned that the tip was not included, then asked how much I would like to pay. I responded with the amount on the bill and paid in cash, indicating that I did not intend to leave a tip. After placing the change on the table, he said, "I think you don’t understand what I mean," and walked away.

unacceptable behavior. I didn't think the service warranted a tip. Was the waiter trying to imply that I didn't understand English and was he provoking me? The restaurant needs to remind ‘this gentleman’ that no one owes him anything. If they don't receive tips, they should reflect on why, instead of blaming the customers.

Attached is the receipt...

Last week me and my friends were on holiday in Hamburg. We wanted to have some beers in the Biergarten. We were a group of 10 people and not all the biergarten was open (but we didn't know it). We set in a table and the waiter started screaming to us in a bad way (in german even though he heard us speaking another language and probably without knowing that we understand german) like "what are you doing? don't you see? don't you have eyes? why did you seat here and not in other tables? what were you thinking about? do you think before doing things?"...he was kind of mocking us at the same time. It was an unpleasant situation and of course we just stood up and went to another place. I would have stayed there if the waiter came to us and kindly asked us to move to another table. You can't treat...

Whe my friend and I were trying to find a table outdoor, an old waitress came to us and shouted loudly. Not knowing what she was saying, we told her that we don't understand German. She claimed to have said English, told us that this is a restaurant and walked away angrily. What a nice way that Hamburg treate tourists? If we did something, you can tell us patiently and calmly (which we don't know what besides we brought bottled water with us - we did order drinks at the resto at last though?). She was just straight up rude. This is our first day at Hamburg and this experience already gives us bad impression of the city. Food was okay for the reasonable price. Don't expect much service to be offered (well maybe I'm too used to the friendly American waiters and waitresses).
