Don't go to this place, they treat the costumers really badly. I had one of the worst experiences in this place! The reviews are extremely misleading for the price and quality of food. This is ok, not the first time you go for a place based on the reviews and don't agree with the reviews. But the service is terrible and we had to wait for 40 minutes just to have the coffee, more 30 minutes to have the food. When I was paying, the waitress asked me if "everything was all right". I answered yes, but the waiting was too long. The chef behind her heard and decided to reply if I'd like to help in the kitchen. I got confused and asked him to repeat. He repeated asking if I couldn't see how busy they are and insulted me!!

I never had this experience before. As I told him, I just provided a feedback based on the waitress question! I'm not obliged to always reply "yes, it was great", especially when it is not. No matter how stressed they are, they can't insult clients based on feedback. They do have a management problem with time and they gotta solve it, not insult you.

Don't go to this place. Instead, walk 2 minutes and go to Bistro Ivy where the brunch is amazing and the waiters are nice.

EDIT after reply: I can’t accept the apologies because it is not about the waiting time. I was insulted(!) Bad service or bad food is not enough to make me write a review. But being called an "1d10t" by the chef based on normal comment is unacceptable. I chose your place to kickstart my Sunday, to spend my money and I am called an 1d10t for doing so. Unacceptable, I hope the bad reviews fix the rating of this place.

EDIT2: this place is just unbelievable. Instead of confessing what happened in their chaotic day with less personnel, they prefer to deny it. You deny it just because you know how serious the situation is! I left and wrote this review exactly because the cook called me id10t and you know it. You can call me liar, but it won't fix your bad service problems and bad reviews will come. My review will remain here because people should know that in this place, if they do a normal comment, they are insulted; if they make a negative review on Google they are called liars, revealing the most unprofessional spirit...

I had a good experience during my first visit to this coffee shop—great food, and the service was both friendly and relatively quick. However, my most recent visit was a complete disappointment and honestly frustrating.

I brought a friend with me this time, expecting the same level of service, but unfortunately, it was far from it. We ordered both food and drinks. Our drinks arrived about 10 minutes later, which was fine, but then we waited 40 minutes for our food. During this time, I kindly asked about our order once, and the server (a woman in a brown crop top with short hair) gave me a cold and dismissive "Oh, it's coming" response.

To make things worse, I noticed several tables that arrived after us being served their food well before ours—some even finishing their meals and moving on to dessert! The table next to us even received the exact same dish that we ordered before we did. When I asked the server about this, she just said, "I don't know," with an impatient and uninterested look on her face. She even interrupted me while I was speaking with a dismissive "i said it's coming."

If she didn't know what was happening with our order, should I be the one who has to figure it out? Should I be the one asking the kitchen about our food? Her attitude was incredibly rude and disrespectful. I even felt a bit of discrimination, as it seemed that tables speaking German were served before us, even though we ordered first.

While I understand that this is a busy café, the lack of respect and care from the staff is unacceptable. (The lady with long hair has always been friendly and professional). After waiting an hour, my French toast finally arrived, only to be cold, overly sweet, and extremely plain.

I can no longer recommend this place. If the staff can't respect their customers, she/he shouldn't be in the job. Quality service matters, and sadly, this café...

I’d give this a 5 if the service was as good as the food. We went there two days in a row when we visited Hamburg and we were so happy with everything the first day. The food and the coffee was great, the staff were a little unattentive but nothing major. This made us go back the next day where we unfortunatley were quite disappointed. I ordered the pancakes and the waitress gave us no information that they would take longer to make, the menu didn’t say anything about longer waiting time either. We got there at 10:40 and our food arrived at 11:25. By that time we had already finished our coffee and our juice. When we asked where our food was they told us that it’d be ready in 2 minutes but we had to wait an additional 10 minutes after asking. When our food arrived the chef told us that the pancakes take long to make which is why we had to wait, however no one had informed us about that. The company next to us also ordered the pancakes and they got theirs after about 15 minutes whereas I got mine after nearly 40 minutes which is not okay at all for me unless it’s informed when ordering. However the food was very good this time too but the waiting time killed our mood. We also found the waitress to be very unattentive and sometimes ignored us when wanting to ask for something or pay.

For a café which such high prices and high demand, you can’t let your customers wait for 40 minutes to get their food. If you know that something on your menu takes that long to make, you should inform your guests and let them decide whether they want to order that specific dish or if they want...

My partner and I were excited to try this ‘Australian influenced’ cafe given we are Aussies ourselves and were craving a taste from home after living in Germany for almost a year. The cafe was quite busy but we were happy to wait for a table. We were told to wait outside but they did not take down our name or number. We were careful to note who else had arrived before us as there was no clear waiting line. After about 30 mins, the person who greeted us earlier spoke to others waiting but completely ignored us. They then proceeded to show another couple to a table even though we had been waiting before them. I expressed this to the staff member and he (very rudely) dismissed us. Once we finally got a table, we were disappointed to find that neither the food nor the coffee were worth the wait. The coffee was less than average (very un-Australian) and the food had absolutely no flavour. In Australia, there is always salt + pepper on the table so you can adjust the seasoning! On top of that, we found a hair and the top of the avocado (hard, brown part) which I bit into. We didn’t bring this up with the staff because they were already rude to us once and we didn’t want to be gaslit by them again. If you’re looking for an authentic Aussie style breakfast, avoid this place at all costs. Save your money and go to Australia where the coffee is always good and the staff are never rude.

Marshall St. Coffee is a modern breakfast place in the docks of Hamburg. It's tucked away on a small off road, but it might be worth a visit. The menu looks spot on, but it's not quite up to scratch. I had Eggs Benny and my partner had Poached Eggs with Avo on toast. Firstly, my Eggs Benedict came with quite a dry french / brioche toast, which felt unnecessary. It doesn't compliment the classic flavour of the dish. Also, the garnish traditionally is chives with black pepper, salt etc. and I found my dish to be very bland. The two poached eggs I had were slightly over, so when I cut into the second egg it was already solidifying - I missed the satisfying break of the yoke. Similarly, my partner's dish had the same issues. It's small refinements, but it all adds up - especially if you're spending €14 on a dish each. The coffee wasn't bad. I think the roast they use would work for most pallets. I personally prefer a darker roast. The presentation of the food and atmosphere are nice. So, if you're not too fussed it's an average place that can satisfy most perhaps. Finally, the service was so. But, the place was also busy to be fair and they found us a spot without a reservation.

A slightly disappointing experience overall. Considering the other reviews we expected quite a bit from the food, but while it’s very high quality ingredients that taste good on their own, the actual preparation of them is underwhelming. The avocado smash comes entirely unseasoned, half of the poached eggs were overcooked so they don’t run at all, and the “french toast” is just a big piece of brioche dunked in cream so briefly it doesn’t even penetrate anything and then covered in mascarpone and fruit compote. There’s not much in terms of flavor or seasoning at all, outside of what the ingredients themselves provide, it just looks pretty. Considering the price and the extremely long wait in front of the restaurant and then again at the table, I wouldn’t choose to come here again for food – drinks taste great, but even those take at least 20 minutes to come out. The head waiter is lovely and tries his best to accommodate everyone, so at least the atmosphere is very friendly. It’s just not quite enough to make up for the rest.
